Bioindicators of edge effects within Atlantic Forest remnants: Conservation implications in a threatened biodiversity hotspot

open access: yesDiversity and Distributions, Volume 29, Issue 3, Page 349-363, March 2023., 2023
Abstract Aim Deforestation of the Atlantic Forest of eastern Paraguay has been recent but extensive, resulting in a fragmented landscape highly influenced by forest edges. We examined edge effects on multiple dimensions of small mammalian diversity. Location Forest fragments of eastern Paraguayan Atlantic Forest. Methods We trapped small mammal species

Detection and molecular identification of blood parasites in rodents captured from urban areas of southern Sarawak, Malaysian Borneo

open access: yesVeterinary Medicine and Science, Volume 8, Issue 5, Page 2059-2066, September 2022., 2022
Out of 13 samples, 69.2% (n = 9) were detected with Hepatocystis sp., while 15.4% (n = 2) were positive with Hepatozoon ophisauri. Two individuals had multiple infections from both species. This information is essential for the future prevention of zoonotic outbreaks and surveillance programmes.

Manifestations of domination: Assessments of social dominance in rodents

open access: yesGenes, Brain and Behavior, Volume 21, Issue 3, March 2022., 2022
This review describes and discusses approaches to assess social ranks in rodent species. Abstract Social hierarchies are ubiquitous features of virtually all animal groups. The varying social ranks of members within these groups have profound effects on both physical and emotional health, with lower‐ranked individuals typically being the most adversely

Copulatory behavior of Calomys callosus [PDF]

open access: yesBulletin of the Psychonomic Society, 1979
A quantitative description of copulatory behavior in Calomys callosus (laucha de campo) was obtained under laboratory conditions. The copulatory pattern is characterized by intravaginal thrusting and multiple intromissions preceding ejaculation. Copulatory locks were rare.

The adjustment of Calomys callosus (Rodentia, Cricetidae) to food deprivation [PDF]

open access: yesRevista Brasileira de Zoologia, 1989
The adjustment of Calomys callosus (Rodentia, Cricetidae) to intermittent food deprivation was investigated. Animals subjected either to 24-hr or to 48-hr repeated periods of deprivation successfully compensated, showing (1) increases in post-fast intake relatively to the intake by control animals; (2) rapid recovery of the baseline levels of body ...

The vicious circle and infection intensity: The case of Trypanosoma microti in field vole populations [PDF]

open access: yes, 2009
Objective: In natural populations, infection and condition may act synergistically to trigger a vicious circle: poor condition predisposes to host infections, which further reduce condition, and so on.

Alguns aspectos do comportamento de cepas silvestres de Trypanosoma cruzi em camundongos e Calomys callosus (Rodentia) Some aspects of the behavior of wild strains of Trypanosoma cruzi in mice and Calomys callosus (Rodentia)
