Fiber Optic Sensors for Vital Signs Monitoring. A Review of Its Practicality in the Health Field
Vital signs not only reflect essential functions of the human body but also symptoms of a more serious problem within the anatomy; they are well used for physical monitoring, caloric expenditure, and performance before a possible symptom of a massive ...

Thermodynamic fluctuation relation for temperature and energy
The present work extends the well-known thermodynamic relation $C=\beta ^{2}< \delta {E^{2}}>$ for the canonical ensemble. We start from the general situation of the thermodynamic equilibrium between a large but finite system of interest and a ...

This paper aimed to carry out an analysis of Joule’s original texts, written in the middle of the XIX century, trying to understand how the changes in heat concept occurred throughout his work. To support the theoretical analysis, a literature review was

Kinetic approach to the cluster liquid-gas transition
The liquid-gas transition in free atomic clusters is investigated theoretically based on simple unimolecular rate theories and assuming sequential evaporations.

Oxi-Inflamm-Aging: a New Theory with Practical Implications
Oxidative stress causes an impairment of the physiological systems essential for maintaining homeostasis, including the immune system. Immune dysregulation leads to a chronic low-grade inflammatory state in aging. This is the basis of the new integrative

Tuning the caloric response of BaTiO$_3$ by tensile epitaxial strain
We investigate the effect of epitaxial strain on the electrocaloric effect (ECE) in BaTiO$_3$ by means of ab initio based molecular dynamics simulations. We show that tensile strain can be used to optimize the operation range for ferroic cooling.

Background. Psychological factors' effect on weight loss is poorly understood, in general, and specifically in the severely obese. Objective. To examine whether a behavioral model based on tenets of social cognitive and self-efficacy theory will increase

The metabolic underpinnings of temperature-dependent predation in a key marine predator
IntroductionChanges in temperature can fundamentally transform how species interact, causing wholesale shifts in ecosystem dynamics and stability. Yet we still have a limited understanding of how temperature-dependence in physiology drives temperature ...
