Effect of moderate intensity exercise on HDAC4 and CaMKII genes expression in myocardium of male rats

open access: yesFiyz̤, 2020
Background: Histone Dacetylases-4 (HDAC4) is phosphorylated by calcium-calmodulin-dependent kinase (CaMKII) that plays an important role in cardiac tissue hypertrophy.

A multi-state model of the CaMKII dodecamer suggests a role for calmodulin in maintenance of autophosphorylation.

open access: yesPLoS Computational Biology, 2019
Ca2+/calmodulin-dependent protein kinase II (CaMKII) accounts for up to 2 percent of all brain protein and is essential to memory function. CaMKII activity is known to regulate dynamic shifts in the size and signaling strength of neuronal connections, a ...

Human cardiomyocyte calcium handling and transverse tubules in mid-stage of post-myocardial-infarction heart failure [PDF]

open access: yes, 2018
Aims: Cellular processes in the heart rely mainly on studies from experimental animal models or explanted hearts from patients with terminal end-stage heart failure (HF).

Ethanol inhibition of recombinant NMDA receptors is not altered by coexpression of CaMKII-α or CaMKII-β [PDF]

open access: yesAlcohol, 2008
Previous studies have shown that the N-methyl-d-aspartate (NMDA) receptor is an important target for the actions of ethanol in the brain. N-methyl-d-aspartate receptors are glutamate-activated ion channels that are highly expressed in neurons. They are activated during periods of significant glutamatergic synaptic activity and are an important source ...

Nigra‐Subthalamic Dopaminergic Circuitry Modulates and Represents Distinct Pain Modality in Physiological and Pain States in Mice

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Nigral dopaminergic (DA) neurons modulate and represent pain with a preference to a particular modality (mechanical) and laterality (contralateral), which are controlled by nigral GABAergic neurons. The pain modulation is mimicked by the nigro‐subthalamic projection and its downstream neurons, involving D2‐like receptors.

Stellate Ganglionectomy Attenuates Pressure Overload-Induced Cardiac Hypertrophy and Dysfunction

open access: yesFrontiers in Bioscience-Landmark
Background: Enhanced cardiac sympathetic activity contributes to chronic heart failure (CHF). Interventions targeting the stellate ganglion (SG) can reduce this activity, potentially slowing the progression of cardiovascular diseases ...

Intracellular mechanisms underlying the nicotinic enhancement of LTP in the rat dentate gyrus [PDF]

open access: yes, 2008
We have previously shown that activation of nicotinic acetylcholine receptors (nAChRs) enhanced long-term potentiation (LTP) in the rat dentate gyrus in vitro via activation of α7 nAChR. In the present studies, mechanisms underlying the acute and chronic

Functional implications of CaMKII alternative splicing [PDF]

open access: yesEuropean Journal of Neuroscience, 2020
Abstract Ca 2+ /calmodulin‐dependent protein kinase II (CaMKII) is known to be a crucial regulator in the post‐synapse during long‐term potentiation. This important protein has been the subject of many studies centered on understanding memory at the molecular, cellular, and ...

A Photothermal Transducer Regulates Transmembrane Calcium Flow for Synergistic Osteoarthritis Therapy

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Upon NIR irradiation at 808 nm, the activity of TRPV4 was inhibited by M2M@BPSC, which led to reduced calcium influx, mitochondrial protection, and, importantly, the transcriptional activation of the STAT6‐EGR2 pathway. The improved macrophage function indirectly readjusts the equilibrium between C‐ECM and F‐ECM to reconstruct a suitable ...

Effect of multimeric structure of CaMKII in the GluN2B-mediated modulation of kinetic parameters of ATP. [PDF]

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2012
Interaction of GluN2B subunit of N-methyl-D-aspartate receptor with calcium/calmodulin dependent protein kinase II (CaMKII) is critical for the induction of long term potentiation at hippocampal CA3-CA1 synapses.
