The critical role of DNA damage‐inducible transcript 4 (DDIT4) in stemness character of leukemia cells and leukemia initiation

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Stemness properties, including quiescence, self‐renewal, and chemoresistance, are closely associated with leukemia relapse. Here, we demonstrate that DNA damage‐inducible transcript 4 (DDIT4) is induced in the hypoxic bone marrow niche and is essential for maintaining the stemness of AML1‐ETO9a leukemia cells.

Solifugae of Canada [PDF]

open access: yesZooKeys, 2019
The Solfugae fauna of Canada includes three known species:EremobatesdocoloraBrookhart and Muma,E.scaber(Kraepelin), andHemerotrechadenticulataMuma. It is expected that as many as four additional species may be found in Canada. Only one Barcode Index Number is currently known from Canadian specimens.

Investigating the cell of origin and novel molecular targets in Merkel cell carcinoma: a historic misnomer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
This study indicates that Merkel cell carcinoma (MCC) does not originate from Merkel cells, and identifies gene, protein & cellular expression of immune‐linked and neuroendocrine markers in primary and metastatic Merkel cell carcinoma (MCC) tumor samples, linked to Merkel cell polyomavirus (MCPyV) status, with enrichment of B‐cell and other immune cell

Phthiraptera of Canada [PDF]

open access: yesZooKeys, 2019
There are approximately 463 species of parasitic lice recorded in Canada, in three suborders: Amblycera, six families; Ischnocera, two families; Anoplura, eight families. At least an additional 361 species may eventually be recorded based on presence of suitable hosts and proximity to known distributions.

Inhibition of CDK9 enhances AML cell death induced by combined venetoclax and azacitidine

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
The CDK9 inhibitor AZD4573 downregulates c‐MYC and MCL‐1 to induce death of cytarabine (AraC)‐resistant AML cells. This enhances VEN + AZA‐induced cell death significantly more than any combination of two of the three drugs in AraC‐resistant AML cells.

Diptera of Canada [PDF]

open access: yesZooKeys, 2019
The Canadian Diptera fauna is updated. Numbers of species currently known from Canada, total Barcode Index Numbers (BINs), and estimated numbers of undescribed or unrecorded species are provided for each family. An overview of recent changes in the systematics and Canadian faunistics of major groups is provided as well as some general information on ...

Statins induce monocytic differentiation in acute myeloid leukemia cells through the KLF4/DPYSL2A axis

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Statins, identified via the Comparative Toxicogenomics Database, promote monocytic differentiation and apoptosis in non‐APL AML cells by upregulating DPYSL2A through a KLF4‐dependent pathway. Mevalonate supplementation reversed these effects, indicating involvement of the mevalonate pathway.
