Bacteriostatic activity of con a lectin from Canavalia ensiformis

open access: yesIndian Journal of Pharmaceutical and Biological Research, 2013
The aim of this work was to explore the therapeutic applications of Con A lectin from Canavalia ensiformis and to explore its antibacterial activity. Activity of lectin was quantified by their ability to agglutinate erythrocytes using Hemagglutination assay. Characterization and purity of Con A lectin was evaluated by using SDS-PAGE analysis.

Antiproliferative effects of lectins from Canavalia ensiformis and Canavalia brasiliensis in human leukemia cell lines

open access: yesToxicology in Vitro, 2012
The antiproliferative activity of lectins Canavalia ensiformis (ConA) and Canavalia brasiliensis (ConBr) were studied using human leukemia MOLT-4 and HL-60 cell lines. It was revealed that both ConA and ConBr were markedly cytotoxic to cells using MTT and NAC assays.

Cloning, Expression, and Crystallization of Jack Bean (Canavalia ensiformis) Canavalin [PDF]

open access: yesPlant Physiology, 1993
Canavalin is the major storage protein of the jack bean (Canavalia ensiformis) and belongs to the classical vicilin fraction. A full-length cDNA for canavalin was generated by the polymerase chain reaction. The nucleotide sequence coding for canavalin and the corresponding amino acid sequence were determined and shown to be homologous with those of ...
