Metabolism of cannabidiol by the rat

Metabolites of CBD excreted into the bile and perfusion fluid were examined in a rat liver perfusion preparation. Metabolites were extracted with ethyl acetate and identified by GC/MS as TMS derivatives. Four mono- and five di-hydroxy metabolites were identified with major sites of metabolic attack being at C-7 and C-4".

Le cannabidiol administre a dose de 100 mg par os et de 30 mg par injection i.v. fut inactif dans les sujets d'etude. Le cannabinol, a dose orale de 400 mg, le fut aussi. Ces constituants du cannabis ne contribuent donc pas a l'effet pharmacologique.

Cannabidiol as an antipsychotic drug

Cannabidiol (CBD) is a major phytocannabinoid in the Cannabis sativa plant. In contrast to Δ9-tetrahydrocannabinol (THC), CBD does not produce the typical psychotomimetic effects of the plant. In addition, CBD has attracted increased interest due to its potential therapeutic effects in various psychiatric disorders, including schizophrenia.
