Hypercapnia Effects on Lung Function

open access: yesComprehensive Physiology, Volume 16, Issue 1, February 2026.
CO2 is a signaling molecule that disrupts alveolar fluid clearance and ion transport, impairs alveolar repair, and promotes mitochondrial and endoplasmic reticulum dysfunction. It suppresses innate immunity, host defense, and inflammation, while increasing airway contractility.

Pathway‐Informed Machine Learning Identifies Genetic Predictors of High‐Dose Methotrexate‐Induced Mucositis in Pediatric Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia

open access: yesClinical Pharmacology &Therapeutics, Volume 119, Issue 2, Page 447-456, February 2026.
High‐dose methotrexate for pediatric cancer treatment is frequently associated with mucositis, which can lead to delayed or discontinued treatment and impact survival. While individual genetic variants have been implicated, the cumulative impact of genetic variation within relevant biological pathways remains unexplored.

TIMP2 promotes AKI‐CKD transition by inducing tubular maladaptive repair and cell senescence via targeting Wnt/β‐catenin signalling

open access: yesClinical and Translational Medicine, Volume 16, Issue 2, February 2026.
1. TIMP2 is upregulated in injured renal tubules and promotes maladaptive repair and cell senescence. 2. Genetic deletion of TIMP2 in tubular epithelial cells attenuates renal fibrosis and improves mitochondrial function. 3. TIMP2 activates Wnt/β‐catenin signalling by binding to LRP6 via an MMP‐independent mechanism.

Astrocytic TCF7L2 Impacts Brain Osmoregulation and Restricts Neuronal Excitability

open access: yesGlia, Volume 74, Issue 2, February 2026.
Astrocytic TCF7L2 impacts extracellular glutamate and glutamine levels. Loss of astrocytic TCF7L2 disrupts extracellular potassium clearance. TCF7L2‐dependent astrocytic changes reduce neuronal excitability. ABSTRACT Astrocytes differentiate and mature during postnatal development, but the molecular mechanisms linking their maturation to neuronal ...

Multi‐Omics Revealed the Effects of Intrauterine Hyperglycemia Exposure on the Development of Skeletal Muscle in Offspring

open access: yesJournal of Cachexia, Sarcopenia and Muscle, Volume 17, Issue 1, February 2026.
ABSTRACT Background Gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM), a common pregnancy complication characterized by maternal hyperglycemia, negatively impacts offspring health. Skeletal muscle, a critical tissue for glucose and lipid metabolism, is especially vulnerable to prenatal environmental insults.

Neuro‐Immune Crosstalk: Molecular Mechanisms, Biological Functions, Diseases, and Therapeutic Targets

open access: yesMedComm, Volume 7, Issue 2, February 2026.
Neurons, immune cells, and other cellular components within the disease microenvironment (such as stromal cells and tumor cells) constitute a dynamically evolving ecosystem. Neurons directly modulate immune cell activity and inflammatory responses through the release of neurotransmitters (e.g., norepinephrine and CGRP), while also promoting tumor ...
