Capacitors voltage balancing modeling in three phase flying capacitor converters with booster
2012 3rd Power Electronics and Drive Systems Technology (PEDSTC), 2012This paper provides a mathematical model for voltage natural balancing process in three phase capacitor-clamped multicell converters. The analysis leads to state-space model of the converters. State-space representation of converter can be utilized to investigate the start-up and steady states of internal flying capacitors voltages.

A resonant switched-capacitor converter for voltage balancing of series-connected capacitors
2009 International Conference on Power Electronics and Drive Systems (PEDS), 2009This paper describes a resonant switched-capacitor converter (RSCC) for voltage balancing of several capacitor or battery modules connected in series. This voltage balancing circuit transfers electric charge between the capacitor modules with a soft switching operation, resulting in a reduction of power loss and EMI.

Switched Capacitor MMC Submodule Voltage Balancing with Reduced Number of Voltage Sensors
2020 IEEE Energy Conversion Congress and Exposition (ECCE), 2020This paper presents a submodule (SM) capacitor voltage balancing scheme for the Switched Capacitor Modular Multilevel Converter (SC-MMC), which employs a middle submodule connecting the upper and lower arms and does not require large physical arm inductors.

Capacitor voltage balancing method for modular multilevel converter with flying capacitor submodules
2017 IEEE International Conference on Industrial Technology (ICIT), 2017The modular multilevel converter (MMC) is most widely acclaimed converter topology for high-voltage, high-power applications. Several multilevel submodules have been proposed to replace the conventional two-level submodules for MMC, allowing the reduction in the foot-print size of the converter for the same number of output voltage levels.

Active capacitor voltage balancing control for three-level flying capacitor boost converter
2018 IEEE Applied Power Electronics Conference and Exposition (APEC), 2018The average-behavior circuit model of three-level flying capacitor boost converter (FCBC) is presented in this paper. The small-signal transfer functions of three-level FCBC are first obtained that are including two control signals as the input signals and including the output voltage and the capacitor voltage as the output signals.

This paper presents a new strategy for the analytical determination of the natural voltage balancing dynamics of three-phase flying capacitor converters. The approach substitutes double Fourier series representations of the pulsewidth modulation switching signals into a nonlinear transient circuit model of the three-phase converter.

Capacitor Voltage-Balancing Techniques for a Multipulse Rectifier With Active Injection
IEEE Transactions on Industry Applications, 2009Two techniques are presented to balance the filter capacitor voltages of a multi-pulse rectifier with active injection operating on a variable frequency supply. The active injector consists of a low-rated, bidirectional switch that modifies the behaviour of a 12-pulse rectifier at either low or high-frequency , resulting in 24-pulse or multi-level PWM ...

MMC Capacitor Voltage Balancing Strategy Based on Carrier Rotation
2018 IEEE International Power Electronics and Application Conference and Exposition (PEAC), 2018Modular multilevel converter (MMC) is one of the most potential converter structures for medium/high power/voltage applications. Since the electrical energy is stored in the capacitances of its sub-modules during the operation of the MMC, the output power quality is directly related to the capacitor voltage.

A Sort Method of Balancing Capacitor Voltage of MMC
2019 18th International Symposium on Distributed Computing and Applications for Business Engineering and Science (DCABES), 2019The sub-module voltage sharing of modular multi-level converters is beneficial to reducing switching losses and eliminating DC side circulations, which has attracted the attention of experts and scholars at home and abroad. Based on the quick selection sorting algorithm, this paper studies the grouping sorting of Modular Multilevel Converter (MMC ...
