Defective viral particles in caprine arthritis encephalitis virus infection
Virology, 1992Attempts to isolate full-length unintegrated circular forms of the caprine arthritis encephalitis virus (CAEV) genome yielded only a large number of molecules with deletions. The 3' borders of most of these deletions were near the U3 region of the long terminal repeat whereas the 5' edges were found at various upstream sites within pol or env. With one

Virology, 1981
Abstract Infection of caprine synovial membrane cells with the retrovirus, caprine arthritis-sencephalitis virus (CAEV), leads to the formation of multinucleate cells as a result of the fusion of productively infected cells. Infection with CAEV in the presence of cytosine arabinoside demonstrated a requirement for an early DNA-dependent step in the ...

Proviral DNA in the Brains of Goats Infected with Caprine Arthritis-encephalitis Virus
Journal of Comparative Pathology, 1999Archive paraffin wax-embedded sections of brain from goats and kids naturally infected with caprine arthritis-encephalitis virus (CAEV) were examined. Severe leucoencephalitis was present, with infiltration of lymphocytes, plasma cells and macrophages into the white matter, meninges and choroid plexus.

Efficient replication of caprine arthritis-encephalitis virus in goat granulosa cells
Virus Research, 2001Recent reports demonstrated the susceptibility of epithelial cells from different organs to caprine arthritis-encephalitis virus (CAEV) both in vitro and in vivo. Since granulosa cells (GC) are of epithelial origin and currently used for in vitro oocyte maturation, we addressed the question whether these cells are susceptible or resistant to CAEV ...

Prevalence of antibody to caprine arthritis-encephalitis virus in goats in the United States
Journal of the American Veterinary Medical Association, 1992Summary Goats from 28 states were tested for antibodies to caprine arthritis-encephalitis virus. Of 3,790 goats, 1,175 (31%) tested positive, and of 196 herds tested, 143 (73%) had 1 or more seropositive members. This prevalence, based on serum samples from all goats in the participating herds, was lower than most rates reported in other studies.

The mammary gland as a target organ for infection with caprine arthritis-encephalitis virus
Journal of Comparative Pathology, 1985A herd of 15 dairy goats with a previous history of neurological disease in kids was screened for caprine arthritis-encephalitis (CAE) virus infection. Virus was isolated from the PBL of all animals as well as milk from lactating does. All animals had antibody detected by ELISA and gel immuno-diffusion.

CAPRINE ARTHRITIS ENCEPHALITIS VIRUS INFECTION IN KIDS WITH ARTHRITIS
2008Infection by caprine arthritis encephalitis virus (CAEV) is a worldwide cause of slowly progressing inflammatory disease of joints, mammary gland, lung and less commonly brain of mature goats. Chronic, proliferative arthritis in mature goats is the predominant clinical disease manifestation of CAE (Cheevers et al, 1988).

Seroprevalence of Caprine Arthritis-Encephalitis Virus Infection in Lithuania
2022Background: Caprine arthritis-encephalitis (CAE) is a viral disease of goats caused by small ruminant lentiviruses (SRLV), members of Retroviridae family. CAE is widespread worldwide and it is currently considered as one of the main threats to goat production in the European countries.
