Colibacillary arthritis and severe osteomyelitis in lame goat kids due to management procedures

open access: yesVeterinary Record Case Reports, Volume 9, Issue 1, March 2021., 2021
Abstract Lameness in the hindquarters was seen in twenty goat kids out of a group of 90 on a dairy goat farm. Initial treatment with antibiotics and NSAID's did not improve the condition. At necropsy in eight kids, a multi‐resistant Escherichia coli was isolated from affected femurs, strongly indicative of colibaccilary osteomyelitis. In addition, with

SEROEPIDEMIOLOGICAL SURVEY OF CAPRINE ARTHRITIS ENCEPHALITIS VIRUS AND BLUETONGUE VIRUS IN GOAT HERDS FROM PARAIBA STATE, NORTHEASTERN BRAZIL

open access: yesArchives of Veterinary Science, 2021
Caprine arthritis encephalitis (CAE) and bluetongue (BT) are viral diseases affecting goats and sheep, respectively, worldwide. Both diseases are characterized by being slow and progressive, causing a variety of clinical signs and determining economic ...

Ovine Progressive Pneumonia: Diagnosis and Seroprevalence in the South of Sonora, Mexico

open access: yesCase Reports in Veterinary Medicine, Volume 2021, Issue 1, 2021., 2021
Ovine progressive pneumonia (OPP) is the most severe presentation of small ruminant lentivirus (SRLV) infection known as Maedi‐Visna. Serological evidence in Mexico of the presence of this lentivirus was published in 1986. After that, studies revealed that SRLVs have a broad distribution in Mexico by detecting antibodies or/and molecular tests; however,

First isolation and nucleotide comparison of the gag gene of the caprine arthritis encephalitis virus circulating in naturally infected goats from Argentina [PDF]

open access: yesOpen Veterinary Journal, 2017
Caprine arthritis encephalitis virus (CAEV) has been reported in different countries worldwide, based on serological and molecular detection. In Argentina, the prevalence of CAEV infections is increasing, with goats showing symptoms associated mostly ...

Retroviral Infections in Sheep and Goats: Small Ruminant Lentiviruses and Host Interaction

open access: yesViruses, 2013
Small ruminant lentiviruses (SRLV) are members of the Retrovirus family comprising the closely related Visna/Maedi Virus (VMV) and the Caprine Arthritis-Encephalitis Virus (CAEV), which infect sheep and goats. Both infect cells of the monocyte/macrophage

open access: yesJournal of Veterinary Research, 2023
Maedi-visna virus and caprine arthritis encephalitis virus are two closely related lentiviruses which cause multisystemic, progressive and persistent infection in goats and sheep.

Risk Factors Associated with the Alpine Multispecies Farming System in the Eradication of CAEV in South Tyrol, Italy

open access: yesViruses, 2021
South Tyrol has implemented, in 2007, a mandatory eradication program against Caprine Arthritis Encephalitis Virus (CAEV), a virus known to cause economic losses related to decreases in milk production and milk quality in goats, along with poor animal ...

Serological diagnosis of lentivirus infection in goats raised in Algeria

open access: yesJournal of Veterinary Research, 2019
Introduction: Infection of goats with caprine arthritis encephalitis virus (CAEV) has been detected in variable proportions in many countries all over the world. Here, we investigated the seroprevalence of CAEV in goats raised in Algeria.

Conserved presence of G-quadruplex forming sequences in the Long Terminal Repeat Promoter of Lentiviruses [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
G-quadruplexes (G4s) are secondary structures of nucleic acids that epigenetically regulate cellular processes. In the human immunodeficiency lentivirus 1 (HIV-1), dynamic G4s are located in the unique viral LTR promoter.
