Rift Valley fever virus (RVFV) is a high‐priority zoonotic pathogen with the ability to cause massive loss during its outbreak within a very short period of time. Lack of a highly sensitive, instant reading diagnostic method for RVFV, which is more suitable for on‐site testing, is a big gap that needs to be addressed.

Establishment of a Challenge Model for Sheeppox Virus Infection
Sheeppox virus (SPPV) together with goatpox virus and lumpy skin disease virus form the genus Capripoxvirus of the Poxviridae family. Due to their great economic importance and major impact on livelihood of small-scale farmers, OIE guidelines classify ...

A novel strain of lumpy skin disease virus causes clinical disease in cattle in Hong Kong
Abstract Lumpy skin disease virus (LSDV) is an emerging poxviral pathogen of cattle that is currently spreading throughout Asia. The disease situation is of high importance for farmers and policy makers in Asia. In October 2020, feral cattle in Hong Kong developed multi‐focal cutaneous nodules consistent with lumpy skin disease (LSD).

Identification of multiple independent horizontal gene transfers into poxviruses using a comparative genomics approach [PDF]
Background Poxviruses are important pathogens of humans, livestock and wild animals. These large dsDNA viruses have a set of core orthologs whose gene order is extremely well conserved throughout poxvirus genera.

The study describes the first outbreak of LSD in the Butana area of the state of Kassala, Eastern Sudan affecting seven cattle herds. On the basis of ELISA and PCR techniques, LSDV was detected in clinically observed cattle, and the virus was isolated on the chorioallantoic membrane (CAM) of chicken embryos and identified by PCR.

Detection of Clinical and Subclinical Lumpy Skin Disease Using Ear Notch Testing and Skin Biopsies
Lumpy skin disease (LSD) diagnosis is primarily based on clinical surveillance complemented by PCR of lesion crusts or nodule biopsies. Since LSD can be subclinical, the sensitivity of clinical surveillance could be lower than expected. Furthermore, real-
