Overview of diagnostic tools for Capripox virus infections

Preventive Veterinary Medicine, 2020
Capripox viruses are the causative agents of important animal diseases in cattle (Lumpy Skin Disease), sheep (Sheeppox) and goats (Goatpox) with severe socio-economic impact in case of wide scale outbreaks. Therefore there is a constant need for adequate diagnostic tools.

Mechanical transmission of capripox virus and African swine fever virus by Stomoxys calcitrans

Research in Veterinary Science, 1987
Stomoxys calcitrans can act as an efficient mechanical vector of capripox virus and African swine fever virus. Capripox virus was transmitted to a susceptible goat by flies infected 24 hours previously and the virus survived in some flies for at least four days.

TaqMan based real-time duplex PCR for simultaneous detection and quantitation of capripox and orf virus genomes in clinical samples

Journal of Virological Methods, 2014
A rapid and sensitive TaqMan based real-time duplex PCR (drt-PCR) assay for simultaneous detection, differentiation and quantitation of Capripoxvirus (CaPV) and Orf virus (ORFV) DNA, was optimized targeting the highly conserved DNA polymerase genes of these virus genomes.

Genetic diversity of fusion gene (ORF 117), an analogue of vaccinia virus A27L gene of capripox virus isolates

Virus Genes, 2015
The fusion gene (ORF 117) sequences of twelve (n = 12) capripox virus isolates namely sheeppox (SPPV) and goatpox (GTPV) viruses from India were demonstrated for their genetic and phylogenetic relationship among them. All the isolates were confirmed for their identity by routine PCR before targeting ORF 117 gene for sequence analysis.

Lumpy skin disease, an African capripox virus disease of cattle

British Veterinary Journal, 1991
Lumpy skin disease is an infectious viral disease of cattle, which often occurs in epizootic form. The disease is characterized by the eruption of nodules in the skin, which may cover the whole of the animal's body. Systemic effects include pyrexia, anorexia, dysgalactia and pneumonia; lesions are often found in the mouth and upper respiratory tract ...

A new approach to develop a vaccine against capripox infection in sheep and goats using a new strain of sheep pox virus in Iran

2010
This report describes the preparation of a safe and immunogenic single vaccine against capripox disease in sheep and goats using two different types of cells (primary lamb kidney and vero, a bovine turbinate cell line). This used the 0240 pox strain isolated from sheep during an outbreak. The prepared vaccine was administered subcutaneously and induced
