[Carbapenem-resistant Acinetobacter baumannii strains].

open access: yesMedycyna doswiadczalna i mikrobiologia, 2010
A. baumannii rods are opportunistic pathogens responsible generally for nosocomial infections. Resistance to carbapenems, observed among them, is a serious threat due to ability to be transmitted between bacterial species. The aim of our study was to evaluate the frequency of isolation and susceptibility to antibiotics of resistant to imipenem and/or ...

OXA beta-lactamase-mediated carbapenem resistance in Acinetobacter baumannii

open access: yesIndian Journal of Medical Microbiology, 2011
Acinetobacter baumannii is a significant pathogen in health care settings. In recent years, an increase in carbapenem resistance among A. baumannii due to Ambler class B metallo-beta-lactamases or class D OXA carbapenamases has been reported. In this study we detected the presence of OXA carbapenamases and coproduction of metallo-beta-lactamases ...

Gems From the Caves: Genomic Insights Into the Biosynthetic Potential of Antimicrobial‐Producing Bacteria Associated With Tropical Cave‐Dwelling Sponges

open access: yesEnvironmental Microbiology, Volume 28, Issue 1, January 2026.
Our study reveals that cave‐dwelling marine sponges host bacteria with antimicrobial activity against multidrug‐resistant strains. The bioactive Pseudomonadaceae strains exhibited biosynthetic clusters encoding both characterized and putative antimicrobial compounds and peptides. The findings highlight their potential for discovering novel biomolecules

Characterisation of a Novel Jumbo Lytic Aeromonas dhakensis Bacteriophage P19 and Its Endolysin

open access: yesMicrobial Biotechnology, Volume 19, Issue 1, January 2026.
A jumbo, lytic myovirus phage P19 against multidrug‐resistant (MDR) Aeromonas dhakensis was isolated from river water. P19 demonstrated robust lytic activity, high thermal and pH stability (pH 6–10, up to 60°C), and no genes associated with lysogeny, virulence or antimicrobial resistance. ORF_358 of P19 encodes for T4‐type lysozyme.

Diversity of multi-drug resistant Acinetobacter baumannii population in a major hospital in Kuwait [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
Acinetobacter baumannii is one of the most important opportunistic pathogens that causes serious health care associated complications in critically ill patients. In the current study we report on the diversity of the clinical multi-drug resistant (MDR) A.

Frequency of Metallo-β-Lactamase and Antimicrobial Resistance Patterns of Acinetobacter Baumannii in Carbapenem-Resistant Isolates from Intensive Care Units of the Hospitals in Isfahan City, Iran

open access: yesمجله دانشکده پزشکی اصفهان, 2015
Background: Acinetobacter baumannii is a gram-negative non-fermenting cocobacill or cocci, which is mostly found in soil, different water sources, and many healthcare environments. It is intrinsically resistance to many antibiotics.

Spread of multidrug-resistant Acinetobacter baumannii and Pseudomonas aeruginosa clones in patients with ventilator-associated pneumonia in an adult intensive care unit at a university hospital

open access: yesBrazilian Journal of Infectious Diseases, 2015
Background: In Brazil, ventilator-associated pneumonia (VAP) caused by carbapenem resistant Acinetobacter baumannii and Pseudomonas aeruginosa isolates are associated with significant mortality, morbidity and costs.

Structural Characterization and Functional Annotation of Hypothetical Proteins in the Multidrug‐Resistant Strains of Pseudomonas aeruginosa

open access: yesBioMed Research International, Volume 2026, Issue 1, 2026.
Introduction Pseudomonas aeruginosa is a leading cause of severe nosocomial infections worldwide. This opportunistic pathogen is associated with increased morbidity and mortality rates due to its high levels of antibiotic resistance. The identification of novel therapeutic targets is therefore a pressing global health priority.
