Chromatography of β-carbolines

Journal of Chromatography A, 1967
Abstract Chromatography of a series of seventy-three β-carbolines was carried out on both paper and thin-layer plates in acidic, basic, and neutral solvents. The best solvent for the separation is the neutral and polar solvent such as chloroform-methanol on thin-layer chromatography with Silica Gel G.

Simultaneous determination of tetrahydro-β-carbolines and β-carbolines

Chromatographia, 1996
Reversed-phase ion-pair HPLC with fluorimetric detectors connected in series was studied for the simultaneous determination of two tetrahydro-β-carbolines and two β-carbolines. After additon of internal standards the samples were reacted with fluorescamine, and then subjected to serial extractions to remove their precursor (tryptamine) from the ...

Mononitro-?-carbolines

Chemistry of Heterocyclic Compounds, 1971
By the direct nitration of harmane and 1,3-dimethyl-, 1-ethyl-, 1-n-propyl-, and 1-isopropyl-β-carbolines with concentrated nitric acid or a mixture of nitric and acetic acids, 6- and 8-nitro-1-alkyl-β-carbolines have been obtained. A chromatographic method for separating the nitration products on alumina is proposed.

Microwave‐Assisted Synthesis of Tetrahydro‐β‐carbolines and β‐Carbolines

European Journal of Organic Chemistry, 2014
AbstractA microwave‐mediated Pictet–Spengler procedure utilizing 1,2‐dichloroethane (DCE) and trifluoroacetic acid (TFA) was developed to provide tetrahydro‐β‐carboline salts in high yields. Reactions are complete in 20 minutes or less and the product precipitates from solution in high yields and purity, negating the need for liquid–liquid extraction ...

Synthesis and Antiviral and Fungicidal Activity Evaluation of β-Carboline, Dihydro-β-carboline, Tetrahydro-β-carboline Alkaloids, and Their Derivatives

Journal of Agricultural and Food Chemistry, 2014
Six known β-carboline, dihydro-β-carboline, and tetrahydro-β-carboline alkaloids and a series of their derivatives were designed, synthesized, and evaluated for their anti-tobacco mosaic virus (TMV) and fungicidal activities for the first time. All of the alkaloids and some of their derivatives (compounds 3, 4, 14, and 19) exhibited higher anti-TMV ...

A review of the synthesis of α-carbolines

European Journal of Medicinal Chemistry, 2015
Since the first reported synthesis of an α-carboline almost a century ago, there has been a steady interest in the development of strategies towards this unique heterocyclic motif. This interest can mainly be attributed to a range of biological activity displayed by the α-carboline natural products including cytotoxicity, anticancer properties or CNS ...

The photocyclisation of anilino-pyridines to carbolines

Journal of the Chemical Society C: Organic, 1968
Irradiation of some anilino-pyridines has been shown to yield carbolines. A new heterocyclic system, 9H-pyrrolo[2,3-b : 5,4-b′]dipyridine, is described.

Interaction of β-carbolines with the benzodiazepine receptor. Structure-activity relationships of amide derivatives of β-carboline and tetrahydro-β-carboline

Progress in Neuro-Psychopharmacology and Biological Psychiatry, 1982
1. The inhibition of specific 3H-flunitrazepam binding to rat cortical membrane preparations (benzodiazepine receptors) by a series of amide derivatives of beta-carboline and tetrahydro-beta-carboline related to the ethyl ester of beta-carboline 3-carboxylate (beta-CCE) was measured. 2.

Analysis of the bioactive alkaloids tetrahydro-β-carboline and β-carboline in food

Journal of Chromatography A, 2000
Simple tetrahydro-beta-carbolines (THbetaCs) and beta-carbolines (betaCs) are naturally occurring alkaloids in foods and food processing. This paper reviews the methods employed for their analysis. Procedures for THbetaC and betaC isolation and clean-up to remove interfering compounds are carried out by liquid-liquid extraction, and/or better solid ...

TRYPTAMINES, CARBOLINES, AND RELATED COMPOUNDS: PART VIII. δ-CARBOLINE

Canadian Journal of Chemistry, 1960
The first unambiguous synthesis of δ-carboline has been achieved starting with 3-amino-2-phenylpyridine. This was converted to the azide which was thermally cyclized to δ-carboline. The carboline gave a py-N-methiodide which was converted to the anhydronium base. The pKa of the anhydronium base was determined and its significance is discussed.
