Deep learning-based fast denoising of Monte Carlo dose calculation in carbon ion radiotherapy.

Medical Physics (Lancaster), 2023
BACKGROUND Plan verification is one of the important steps of quality assurance (QA) in carbon ion radiotherapy. Conventional methods of plan verification are based on phantom measurement, which is labor-intensive and time-consuming.

Future Perspective: Carbon Ion Radiotherapy for Head and Neck and Skull Base Malignancies.

Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery Clinics of North America, 2023
Head and neck and base of skull malignancies are challenging for surgical and radiotherapy treatment due to the density of sensitive tissues. Carbon ion radiotherapy (CIRT) is a form of heavy particle therapy that uses accelerated carbon ions to treat ...

Clinical Indications for Carbon Ion Radiotherapy

Clinical Oncology, 2018
Compared with photon and proton therapy, carbon ion radiotherapy (CIRT) offers potentially superior dose distributions, which may permit dose escalation with the potential for improved sparing of adjacent normal tissues. CIRT has increased biological effectiveness leading to increased tumour killing compared with other radiation modalities.
