The apo LETM1 F‐EF‐hand adopts a closed conformation that underlies a multi‐modal sensory role in mitochondria

open access: yesFEBS Letters, Volume 599, Issue 7, Page 971-988, April 2025.
We present the first solution structure of the Ca2+‐depleted LETM1 F‐EF‐hand through a D676A/N678A Ca2+ binding‐deficient mutant, revealing a closed hydrophobic cleft caused by a unique F1‐helix pivot. The apo LETM1 F‐EF‐hand exhibits regiospecific hot and cold unfolding, sensitivity to physiological pH changes and potential for promiscuous heterotypic

Impact of Dispersing on the Production and Extraction of Bio-Based Basic Chemicals from Biogenic Secondary Waste

open access: yesEnvironmental and Climate Technologies
Biogenic waste from waste treatment plants, secondary waste, can be used to produce bio-based carboxylic acids, conventionally produced by chemical synthesis from petroleum-based feedstocks or by synthesis from natural oils.

Production of medium-chain carboxylic acids by Megasphaera sp MH with supplemental electron acceptors [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
Background: C5-C8 medium-chain carboxylic acids are valuable chemicals as the precursors of various chemicals and transport fuels. However, only a few strict anaerobes have been discovered to produce them and their production is limited to low ...

Taurine promotes glucagon‐like peptide‐1 secretion in enteroendocrine L cells

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Taurine, a sulfur‐containing amino acid, is likely taken up by enteroendocrine L cells via the taurine transporter. This process increases the levels of cytosolic ATP. The increase in intracellular Ca2+ concentrations and glucagon‐like peptide‐1 secretion through membrane depolarization is caused by the closure of ATP‐sensitive potassium channels ...

Total lineshape analysis of α-tetrahydrofuroic acid $^{1}$H NMR spectra [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2022
The 1H NMR spectra of L-proline oxygen analogous, alpha-tetrahydrofuroic acid, 7-spins nonsymmetric spin system with strongly pronounced non-first order effects were analyzed by ANATOLIA total lineshape fitting. A close agreement of theoretical and experimental spectra (with R-Factor values bellow 5%) was achieved and accurate values of coupling ...

A general mixture equation of state for double bonding carboxylic acids with >= 2 association sites [PDF]

open access: yesThe Journal of Chemical Physics 148, 174103 (2018), 2018
In this paper we obtain the first general multi-component solution to thermodynamic perturbation theory for the case that molecules can participate in cyclic double bonds. In contrast to previous authors, we do not restrict double bonding molecules to a 2-site association scheme.

Synthesis and preliminary biological screening of certain 5-aralkyl pyrrolidine-3-carboxylic acids as anticonvulsants [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010
Synthesis of a series of 5-aralkyl pyrrolidine-3-carboxylic acid derivatives namely, 1-acetyl-4-hydroxy-5-benzyl or 5-(4-alkoxy-benzyl)-pyrrolidine-3-carboxylic acids (3a-e), 1-H-4-hydroxy-5-benzyl or 5-(4-alkoxy-benzyl)-pyrrolidine-3-carboxylic acids ...

Refining the NaV1.7 pharmacophore of a class of venom‐derived peptide inhibitors via a combination of in silico screening and rational engineering

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Venom peptides have shown promise in treating pain. Our study uses computer screening to identify a peptide that targets a sodium channel (NaV1.7) linked to chronic pain. We produced the peptide in the laboratory and refined its design, advancing the search for innovative pain therapies.

Pharyngeal neuronal mechanisms governing sour taste perception in Drosophila melanogaster

open access: yeseLife
Sour taste, which is elicited by low pH, may serve to help animals distinguish appetitive from potentially harmful food sources. In all species studied to date, the attractiveness of oral acids is contingent on concentration.

The role of salicylic acid, L-ascorbic acid and oxalic acid in promoting the oxidation of alkenes with H(2)O(2) catalysed by [Mn(IV) (2)(O)(3)(tmtacn)(2)](2+) [PDF]

open access: yes, 2008
The role played by the additives salicylic acid, L-ascorbic acid and oxalic acid in promoting the catalytic activity of [Mn(IV) (2)(O)(3)(tmtacn)(2)](PF(6))(2) {1(PF(6))(2), where tmtacn = N, N ', N ''-trimethyl-1,4,7-triazacyclononane} in the ...
