Enhanced expression of miR-889 forecasts an unfavorable prognosis and facilitates cell progression in hepatocellular carcinoma

open access: yesDiagnostic Pathology, 2021
Background As a new type of molecular marker, microRNAs (miRNAs) can be used for early diagnosis and prognosis prediction of malignant tumors, and has broad clinical application prospects.

Vertical inhibition of p110α/AKT and N‐cadherin enhances treatment efficacy in PIK3CA‐aberrated ovarian cancer cells

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
PIK3CA amplification and PIK3CA mutation enhance ovarian tumorigenicity through an activation of AKT, which phosphorylates YAP at Ser127. This Ser127 phosphorylation leads to the retention of YAP in the cytoplasm and triggers RAC1 activity, promoting cell migration. Additionally, AKT activation increases expression of N‐cadherin, which further enhances

PSMD14-mediated deubiquitination of CARM1 facilitates the proliferation and metastasis of hepatocellular carcinoma by inducing the transcriptional activation of FERMT1

open access: yesCell Death and Disease
Hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) is a highly potent malignancy. The enzyme coactivator-associated arginine methyltransferase 1 (CARM1) is highly expressed in different types of cancer.

The PTTG1/VASP axis promotes oral squamous cell carcinoma metastasis by modulating focal adhesion and actin filaments

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
VASP was found to be overexpressed in metastatic oral squamous cell carcinoma (OSCC) tissues. Notably, PTTG1‐ and VASP‐deficient OSCC cells demonstrated suppressed metastatic properties by disrupting the interaction between the cytoskeleton and focal adhesion (FAs) in the filopodia region.

A Review of Current and Emerging Therapies for Advanced Hepatocellular Carcinoma

open access: yesCurrent Oncology, 2022
Hepatocellular carcinoma remains a leading cause of cancer-related deaths worldwide. Liver disease including cirrhosis and viral hepatitis remains among the leading causes of hepatocellular carcinoma and despite increased screening, many patients are ...

Hepatocellular Carcinoma [PDF]

open access: yesCold Spring Harbor Perspectives in Medicine, 2015
The hepatitis B virus (HBV) is a widespread human pathogen that causes liver inflammation, cirrhosis, and hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC). Recent sequencing technologies have refined our knowledge of the genomic landscape and pathogenesis of HCC, but the mechanisms by which HBV exerts its oncogenic role remain controversial.

MicroRNAs in seminal plasma are able to discern infertile men at increased risk of developing testicular cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Male infertility is a known risk factor for the development of testicular cancer. In this paper, we analyzed the expression profile of a microRNA panel by real‐time PCR and validated the results by digital PCR. Experimental and bioinformatics analyses allowed us to identify possible biomarkers able to discern men with a higher risk of developing ...

The overexpression of Rabl3 is associated with pathogenesis and clinicopathologic variables in hepatocellular carcinoma

open access: yesTumor Biology, 2017
Overexpression of Rabl3 is associated with some malignancies. However, their relationship with hepatocellular carcinoma remains unclear. In this study, the expression of Rabl3 in hepatocellular carcinoma cell lines, and four pairs of matched ...
