Outcomes of type A aortic dissection in Australia
Mortality outcomes for type A aortic dissection in Australia have improved over time, stabilizing at 18% over the last 5 years. Units performing fewer operations for type A dissection showed equivalent mortality outcomes to high‐volume units. Abstract Introduction Without surgical intervention, type A aortic dissection (TAAD) carries a high risk of ...

With the increasing use of NOAC and the availability of reversal agents, there remains sparse evidence regarding its use in POAF. The use of a NOAC in patients with POAF did not appear to increase short‐term postoperative complications, including bleeding, stroke, readmission rates and mortality, compared with warfarin.

Staying Alive - CPR Quality Parameters from Wrist-worn Inertial Sensor Data with Evolutionary Fitted Sinusoidal Models [PDF]
In this paper, a robust sinusoidal model fitting method based on the Differential Evolution (DE) algorithm for determining cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) quality-parameters - naming chest compression frequency and depth - as measured by an inertial sensor placed at the wrist is presented.

Background: Left ventricular (LV) overload is a frequent complication during VA-ECMO associated with poor outcomes. Many strategies of LV unloading have been documented but lack of evidence shows which is better.

Manikin-Recorded Cardiopulmonary Sounds Dataset Using Digital Stethoscope [PDF]
Heart and lung sounds are crucial for healthcare monitoring. Recent improvements in stethoscope technology have made it possible to capture patient sounds with enhanced precision. In this dataset, we used a digital stethoscope to capture both heart and lung sounds, including individual and mixed recordings.

An evolutionary approach to continuously estimate CPR quality parameters from a wrist-worn inertial sensor [PDF]
Cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) is one of the most critical emergency interventions for sudden cardiac arrest. In this paper, a robust sinusoidal model-fitting method based on a Evolution Strategy inspired algorithm for CPR quality parameters -- naming chest compression frequency and depth -- as measured by an inertial measurement unit (IMU ...

High‐risk cardiac patients may benefit from timely temporary mechanical circulatory support (tMCS) implantation to provide perioperative hemodynamic stabilization and circulatory support, thus enabling them to undergo life‐saving thoracic surgery. CPB: cardiopulmonary bypass; IABP: intra‐aortic balloon pump; tMCS: temporary mechanical circulatory ...

Large preoperative aortic virtual basal ring diameter to geometric height ratio may be a novel risk factor for de novo aortic insufficiency after durable LVAD implantation and assist in determining surgical indications for concomitant aortic valve procedures with LVAD implantation.
