Sexual Activation of Carotenogenesis in Phycomyces blakesleeanus [PDF]
SUMMARY: Sexual stimulation increases the β-carotene content of the fungus Phycomyces blakesleeanus. The same effect is observed in single cultures exposed to natural and synthetic trisporates and in intersexual heterokaryons. Synthetic racemic (9Z)-methyl trisporate B, a trisporate precursor made by cultures of the (+) mating type, stimulates ...

The Specialized Roles in Carotenogenesis and Apocarotenogenesis of the Phytoene Synthase Gene Family in Saffron [PDF]
Crocus sativus stigmas are the main source of crocins, which are glucosylated apocarotenoids derived from zeaxanthin cleavage that give saffron its red color.

The Mechanism of Variegation in immutans Provides Insight into Chloroplast Biogenesis [PDF]
The immutans (im) variegation mutant of Arabidopsis has green and white-sectored leaves due to the absence of fully functional plastid terminal oxidase (PTOX), a plastoquinol oxidase in thylakoid membranes.

Studies on the Carotenogenesis of Rhodotorula sp. Part II

A Negative Regulator of Carotenogenesis in Blakeslea trispora
The zygomycete Blakeslea trispora is an important strain for the production of carotenoids on a large scale. However, the regulation mechanism of carotenoid biosynthesis is still not well understood in this filamentous fungus. In the present study, we sought to investigate how crgA influences

Carotenoid Profiles in Pigment-Protein Complexes of Rhodospirillum rubrum [PDF]
Young cells of Rhodospirillum rubrum contain a set of carotenoids from lycopene to spirilloxanthin. During growth, intermediates are almost completely converted to spirilloxan-thin. The ratio of the different carotenoid precursors vs.
