Effects of carrageenan type on the behaviour of carrageenan/milk mixtures
The apparent hydrodynamic diameter of casein micelles was determined as a function of hydrocolloid concentration at 608C and during cooling to 208C. The systems studied contained skim milk 100-fold diluted in permeate in the presence of either lambda ...

This study focused on the understanding of starch/carrageenan interactions. Seven carrageenan samples and a modified waxy maize starch were used. Two types of blends were made: starch was pasted in carrageenan solutions or swelled starch granules were ...

Fabrication of κ-carrageenan fibers by wet spinning: Addition of ι-carrageenan
Taking advantage of the gelation process of kappa-carrageenan, we have developed a wet-spinning process to fabricate micro-scale fibers from kappa-carrageenan. Effects of three important spinning parameters, i.e.

[Inhibition of carrageenan edema by carrageenan itself].
Comptes rendus des seances de la Societe de biologie et de ses filiales, 1980The influence of two kinin forming agents: iota carrageenan and ellagic acid, on the paw oedema induced by 48/80, an amino-liberator, or by carrageenan iota, has been studied, in the Rat. Ellagic acid and carrageenan, by intraperitoneal injection, reduce the paw oedema induced respectively by 48/80 and carrageenan itself.

Carrageenan and Dextran in Rats
International Archives of Allergy and Applied Immunology, 2009Carrageenan injected subcutaneously into one hindpaw of the rat produces an anaphylactoid reaction which prevents the same paw responding to a second dose 14 days later but does not alter the response to dextran. However, dextran does not modify the response of the hindpaw to a subsequent dose of either dextran or carrageenan 14 days later.

Interaction of chloroquine and carrageenan
Biochemical Pharmacology, 1974Abstract Amounts of chloroquine from 0.25 to 5.0 mg, when mixed with a carrageenan suspension and injected into the rat's paw, inhibit the swelling normally induced by the injection of carrageenan alone. This effect appears to be explainable in terms of a physicochemical interaction between chloroquine and carrageenan.

Biological Activities of Carrageenan
2014Red seaweeds are popular and economically important worldwide and also well known for their medicinal effects due to the presence of phycocolloids. Carrageenans, the major phycocolloid group of red algae, have been extensively investigated for their vast array of bioactivities such as anticoagulant, antiviral, cholesterol-lowering effects ...
