Carvacrol attenuates mechanical hypernociception and inflammatory response

Naunyn-Schmiedeberg's Archives of Pharmacology, 2011
Carvacrol is a phenolic monoterpene present in the essential oil of the family Lamiaceae, as in the genera Origanum and Thymus. We previously reported that carvacrol is effective as an analgesic compound in various nociceptive models, probably by inhibition of peripheral mediators that could be related with its strong antioxidant effect observed in ...

Carvacrol Ameliorates Ligation‐Induced Periodontitis in Rats

Journal of Periodontology, 2017
Background: This study aims to evaluate the ameliorative effect of carvacrol, an anti‐inflammatory monoterpenoid phenol and a major component of Plectranthus amboinicus, on periodontal damage in an experimental rat model of periodontitis. Methods: Forty Sprague‐Dawley rats were divided into ligation (Lig), non‐ligation (n‐Lig), and two ligation plus ...

The effect of carvacrol on enteric viruses

International Journal of Food Microbiology, 2015
Carvacrol, a monoterpenic phenol, is said to have extensive antimicrobial activity in a wide range of food spoilage or pathogenic fungi, yeast and bacteria. The aim of this study was to assess its antiviral activity on norovirus surrogates, feline calicivirus (FCV), murine norovirus (MNV), and hepatitis A virus (HAV), as well as its potential in food ...

Synthesis and Pharmacological Evaluation of Carvacrol Propionate

Inflammation, 2014
This study aimed at synthesizing the carvacrol propionate (CP) and evaluating its pharmacological profile. CP was obtained from carvacrol and propionyl chloride through an esterification reaction. Male Swiss mice were treated with CP (25, 50, or 100 mg/kg). We evaluated the analgesic effect, mechanical hyperalgesia, and anti-inflammatory effect.

Structural Requirements for the Antimicrobial Activity of Carvacrol

Journal of Agricultural and Food Chemistry, 2006
Carvacrol is a component of several essential oils and has been shown to exert antimicrobial activity. The structural requirements for the activity of carvacrol were determined by comparison to structurally related (nonessential oil) compounds. Removal of the aliphatic ring substituents of carvacrol slightly decreased the antimicrobial activity.

Carvacrol attenuates varicocele-induced infertility in rats

European Journal of Pharmacology
Carvacrol is a common ingredient in the pharmaceutical, cosmetic, and perfume industries. It possesses various pharmaceutical properties including pain relief, anti-cell death, antioxidant, anti-cancer, and anti-inflammatory effects. We investigated the protective impact of carvacrol on infertility caused by varicocele in rats.
