Apoptotic Effect of Coix Polysaccharides on A549 Lung Cancer Cells in Vitro

open access: yesChinese Journal of Lung Cancer, 2012
Background and objective Coix seeds are commonly used in Traditional Chinese Medicine and ingested through daily diet. The aim of this study is to analyze the apoptotic effect of coix polysaccharides on A549 cells.

Inhibition of Stat3 Activation Suppresses Caspase-3 and the Ubiquitin-Proteasome System, Leading to Preservation of Muscle Mass in Cancer Cachexia*

open access: yesJournal of Biological Chemistry, 2015
Background: No reliable treatment exists for cancer-related muscle loss. Results: In muscles of mice with cancer, p-Stat3 stimulates proteolysis by activating caspase-3 and the ubiquitin-proteasome system through a C/EBPδ and myostatin pathway ...

Inhibition of CDK9 enhances AML cell death induced by combined venetoclax and azacitidine

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
The CDK9 inhibitor AZD4573 downregulates c‐MYC and MCL‐1 to induce death of cytarabine (AraC)‐resistant AML cells. This enhances VEN + AZA‐induced cell death significantly more than any combination of two of the three drugs in AraC‐resistant AML cells.

Tracheal cryopreservation: caspase-3 immunoreactivity in tracheal epithelium and in mixed glands

open access: yesBrazilian Journal of Medical and Biological Research, 2009
Cryopreservation has an immunomodulating effect on tracheal tissue as a result of class II antigen depletion due to epithelium exfoliation. However, not all epithelium is detached.

Caspase-9, caspase-3 and caspase-7 have distinct roles during intrinsic apoptosis

open access: yesBMC Cell Biology, 2013
BackgroundApoptosis is a form of programmed cell death that is regulated by the Bcl-2 family and caspase family of proteins. The caspase cascade responsible for executing cell death following cytochrome c release is well described; however the distinct ...

A synthetic benzoxazine dimer derivative targets c‐Myc to inhibit colorectal cancer progression

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Benzoxazine dimer derivatives bind to the bHLH‐LZ region of c‐Myc, disrupting c‐Myc/MAX complexes, which are evaluated from SAR analysis. This increases ubiquitination and reduces cellular c‐Myc. Impairing DNA repair mechanisms is shown through proteomic analysis.

Protective Effects of Chlorella-Derived Peptide Against UVC-Induced Cytotoxicity through Inhibition of Caspase-3 Activity and Reduction of the Expression of Phosphorylated FADD and Cleaved PARP-1 in Skin Fibroblasts

open access: yesMolecules, 2012
UVC irradiation induces oxidative stress and leads to cell death through an apoptotic pathway. This apoptosis is caused by activation of caspase-3 and formation of poly(ADP-ribose) polymerase-1 (PARP-1). In this study, the underlying mechanisms

Caspase-3 Is Required for DNA Fragmentation and Morphological Changes Associated with Apoptosis*

open access: yesJournal of Biological Chemistry, 1998
Interleukin 1β-converting enzyme-like proteases (caspases) are crucial components of cell death pathways. Among the caspases identified, caspase-3 stands out because it is commonly activated by numerous death signals and cleaves a variety of important ...

Survivin and Aurora Kinase A control cell fate decisions during mitosis

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Aurora A interacts with survivin during mitosis and regulates its centromeric role. Loss of Aurora A activity mislocalises survivin, the CPC and BubR1, leading to disruption of the spindle checkpoint and triggering premature mitotic exit, which we refer to as ‘mitotic slippage’.

The molecular mechanism and evolutionary divergence of caspase 3/7-regulated gasdermin E activation

open access: yeseLife
Caspase (CASP) is a family of proteases involved in cleavage and activation of gasdermin, the executor of pyroptosis. In humans, CASP3 and CASP7 recognize the same consensus motif DxxD, which is present in gasdermin E (GSDME).
