Caspase-3, Shears for Synapse Pruning [PDF]

open access: yesDevelopmental Cell, 2014
Motor neurons regulate neuromuscular junction formation by using agrin to stimulate acetylcholine receptor clustering and using acetylcholine to disperse unnecessary receptor clusters on muscle fibers. Wang et al. (2014) now report in this issue of Developmental Cell a critical role for caspase-3 in intracellular mechanisms of acetylcholine-induced ...

Astaxanthin effect on apoptotic biomarkers in methotrexate-induced liver injury

open access: yesAl-Mustansiriyah Journal of Pharmaceutical Sciences, 2022
Methotrexate is used in the treatment of cancer, psoriasis, rheumatoid arthritis and several other disorders. It has a hepatotoxic potential side effect. Patients who have no access to alternative medications face a serious   challenge as a result.

Overexpression of caspase-3 in hepatocellular carcinomas [PDF]

open access: yesModern Pathology, 2004
Caspase-3 is a downstream effector cysteine protease in the apoptotic pathway. It is ubiquitously expressed in normal human tissues including the liver. Overexpression and loss of expression of caspase-3 has been reported in diverse human malignancies. However, expression of caspase-3 in hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) has not been studied.

Chemotherapy-induced pyroptosis is mediated by BAK/BAX-caspase-3-GSDME pathway and inhibited by 2-bromopalmitate

open access: yesCell Death and Disease, 2020
Many chemotherapy treatments induce apoptosis or pyroptosis through BAK/BAX-dependent mitochondrial pathway. BAK/BAX activation causes the mitochondrial outer membrane permeabilization (MOMP), which induces the activation of pro-apoptotic caspase cascade.

Huntingtin inhibits caspase-3 activation [PDF]

open access: yesThe EMBO Journal, 2006
Huntington's disease results from a mutation in the HD gene encoding for the protein huntingtin. The function of huntingtin, although beginning to be elucidated, remains largely unclear. To probe the prosurvival function of huntingtin, we modulate levels of wild-type huntingtin in a number of cellular and in vivo models.

Screening for Caspase-3 Inhibitors: A New Class of Potent Small-Molecule Inhibitors of Caspase-3 [PDF]

open access: yesSLAS Discovery, 2006
From the authors' 650,000 compound collection, they have selected approximately 15,000 potential small-molecule protease inhibitors, which were subjected to high-throughput screening against caspase-3. The screening yielded a series of hits that belong to 11 different scaffolds.

Altered of apoptotic markers of both extrinsic and intrinsic pathways induced by hepatitis C virus infection in peripheral blood mononuclear cells

open access: yesVirology Journal, 2012
Background Chronic hepatitis C (CHC) has emerged as a leading cause of cirrhosis in the U.S. and across the world. To understand the role of apoptotic pathways in hepatitis C virus (HCV) infection, we studied the mRNA and protein expression patterns of ...

Total extract of Abelmoschus manihot L. alleviates uric acid-induced renal tubular epithelial injury via inhibition of caspase-8/caspase-3/NLRP3/GSDME signaling

open access: yesFrontiers in Pharmacology, 2022
Purpose: The incidence of uric acid (UA)-induced kidney injury is increasing owing to the high incidence of hyperuricemia in recent years. The flower of Abelmoschus manihot (Linneus) Medik is a traditional Chinese medicinal herb widely used in the ...

Characterization of Canine Caspase-3

open access: yesJournal of Veterinary Medical Science, 2004
The canine caspase-3 gene was cloned and sequenced. The canine caspase-3 cDNA clone was 1473 base pairs in length and encoded 277 amino acids. The predicted amino acid sequence showed 88.4%, 88.0%, 85.9%, 65.9% and 60.6% homology with that of human, pig, mouse, chicken and zebra fish caspase-3, respectively.
