The Cytotoxic Effects of Testosterone on Gastric Cancer Cell Line (AGS) and Evaluation of Caspase-3, -8, and -9 Activity

open access: yesMajallah-i Dānishgāh-i ̒Ulūm-i Pizishkī-i Qum, 2019
Background and Objectives: Various studies have shown that sex steroids affect cancer cells at cellular and molecular level. In this study, the anti-proliferation effects of testosterone, was investigated on gastric cancer cell line (AGS) and activity ...

The anticancer effect of the HDAC inhibitor belinostat is enhanced by inhibitors of Bcl‐xL or Mcl‐1 in ovarian cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
The pan‐HDAC inhibitor belinostat increases the expression of the pro‐apoptotic proteins Bim, Puma, and Noxa and induces apoptosis in ovarian cancer cell lines and patient‐derived tumor organoids when used at high concentrations. Moreover, inhibiting the anti‐apoptotic proteins Bcl‐xL or Mcl‐1 sensitizes these preclinical models to the cytotoxic effect

The Effects of Ibuprofen Cytoxic Dose on caspase-3, -8 and -9 Activity level in cervical cancer (Hela) cells

open access: yesMajallah-i Dānishgāh-i ̒Ulūm-i Pizishkī-i Bābul, 2019
BACKGROUND AND OBJECTIVE: Studies have shown that ibuprofen can have an anti-cancer effect on cervical cells, although the mechanism of this effect is not well known in cellular and molecular terms.

ENTPD5 induces apoptosis in lung cancer cells via regulating caspase 3 expression. [PDF]

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2015
This study is to investigate the relationship between ectonucleoside triphosphate diphosphohydrolase 5 (ENTPD5) expression and lung cancer clinicopathological factors, and the impact of ENTPD5 on lung cancer cell functions.

CasExpress reveals widespread and diverse patterns of cell survival of caspase-3 activation during development in vivo

open access: yeseLife, 2016
Caspase-3 carries out the executioner phase of apoptosis, however under special circumstances, cells can survive its activity. To document systematically where and when cells survive caspase-3 activation in vivo, we designed a system, CasExpress, which ...

Enhanced Expression of Caspase-3 in Hypertrophic Scars and Keloid: Induction of Caspase-3 and Apoptosis in Keloid Fibroblasts In Vitro [PDF]

open access: yesLaboratory Investigation, 2000
Recent studies have suggested that the regulation of apoptosis during wound healing is important in scar establishment and development of pathological scarring. To examine the phenomenon of apoptosis and its involvement in the process of pathological scarring, we immunohistochemically quantified differential levels of expression of caspase-3 and -2 ...

Systematic profiling of cancer‐fibroblast interactions reveals drug combinations in ovarian cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Fibroblasts, cells in the tumor environment, support ovarian cancer cell growth and alter morphology and drug response. We used fibroblast and cancer cell co‐culture models to test 528 drugs and discovered new drugs for combination treatment. We showed that adding Vorinostat or Birinapant to standard chemotherapy may improve drug response, suggesting ...

Caspase-9 swings both ways in the apoptosome

open access: yesMolecular & Cellular Oncology, 2017
For nearly 2 decades, investigators have debated whether cysteinyl-aspartate-specific protease 9 (caspase-9) is activated within the apoptotic protease-activating factor 1 (Apaf-1) apoptosome through proximity-induced homodimerization or through ...

Caspase-1, but Not Caspase-3, Promotes Diabetic Nephropathy.

open access: yesJournal of the American Society of Nephrology, 2016
Glomerular apoptosis may contribute to diabetic nephropathy (dNP), but the pathophysiologic relevance of this process remains obscure. Here, we administered two partially disjunct polycaspase inhibitors in 8-week-old diabetic (db/db) mice: M-920 ...
