Apoptosis Regulators Bcl-2 and Caspase-3

open access: yesEncyclopedia, 2022
Apoptosis, programmed cell death, has a central role in developmental biology and in maintaining the equilibrium of renewing tissues. A founding member of the Bcl-2 family of regulatory proteins for apoptosis is Bcl-2, which is encoded by the BCL2 gene ...

Delivery of mixed-lineage kinase domain-like protein by vapor nanobubble photoporation induces necroptotic-like cell death in tumor cells [PDF]

open access: yes, 2019
Modern molecular medicine demands techniques to efficiently deliver molecules directly into mammalian cells. As proteins are the final mediators of most cellular pathways, efficient intracellular protein delivery techniques are highly desired.

Coxsackievirus B3-induced apoptosis and Caspase-3 [PDF]

open access: yesCell Research, 2003
Cell death can be classified into two categories: apoptosis and necrosis. Apoptotic pathway can be either caspase-dependent or caspase-independent. Caspase-independent cytopathic effect (CPE) has been described. In order to evaluate the pattern of HeLa cell death induced by Coxsackievirus B3 (CVB3) and whether apoptosis involves caspase activation, we ...

Genetic attenuation of ALDH1A1 increases metastatic potential and aggressiveness in colorectal cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Aldehyde dehydrogenase 1A1 (ALDH1A1) is a cancer stem cell marker in several malignancies. We established a novel epithelial cell line from rectal adenocarcinoma with unique overexpression of this enzyme. Genetic attenuation of ALDH1A1 led to increased invasive capacity and metastatic potential, the inhibition of proliferation activity, and ultimately ...

Cleavage of DFNA5 by caspase-3 during apoptosis mediates progression to secondary necrotic/pyroptotic cell death. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
Apoptosis is a genetically regulated cell suicide programme mediated by activation of the effector caspases 3, 6 and 7. If apoptotic cells are not scavenged, they progress to a lytic and inflammatory phase called secondary necrosis.

Apoptosis in the absence of caspase 3 [PDF]

open access: yesOncogene, 2001
MCF-7 human breast cancer cells do not express caspase 3, thought by some to be a critical component of the apoptosis cascade. Nonetheless, both mock- and bcl-2-transfected MCF-7 cells undergo apoptosis after treatment with a variety of stimuli, including the DNA-cleaving antimitotic agent, neocarzinostatin (NCS).

Dimethyl fumarate combined with cisplatin at subcytotoxic doses sensitizes cervical cancer toward ferroptosis and apoptosis through GSH restriction and p53 (re)activation

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Dimethyl fumarate (DMF) reduces growth of HPV‐positive cervical cancer spheroids and induces ferroptosis in cervical cancer cells via blocking SLC7A11/Glutathione (GSH) axis. Combination of subcytotoxic doses of DMF and cisplatin (CDDP) further suppresses spheroid growth and drives cell death in 2D culture models.

The Cytotoxic Effects of Testosterone on Gastric Cancer Cell Line (AGS) and Evaluation of Caspase-3, -8, and -9 Activity

open access: yesMajallah-i Dānishgāh-i ̒Ulūm-i Pizishkī-i Qum, 2019
Background and Objectives: Various studies have shown that sex steroids affect cancer cells at cellular and molecular level. In this study, the anti-proliferation effects of testosterone, was investigated on gastric cancer cell line (AGS) and activity ...

CASPASE DEPENDENT APOPTOSIS INDUCED BY CLADRIBINE IN THE ESTROGEN RECEPTOR NEGATIVE BREAST CANCER CELL LINE, MDA-MB468 [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Sciences, Islamic Republic of Iran, 2003
The purpose of the present study is to investigate the cytotoxicity/apoptotic effect of 2-chloro-2′-deoxyadenosine, cladribine, (2-CdA) in the human breast cancer cell line, MDA-MB468 (estrogen receptor negative, ER−). MTT [3-(4,5-dimethyl-2-thiazolyl)-2,

Caspase-3 and RasGAP: a stress-sensing survival/demise switch. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
The final decision on cell fate, survival versus cell death, relies on complex and tightly regulated checkpoint mechanisms. The caspase-3 protease is a predominant player in the execution of apoptosis.
