Bioinspired Soft‐Skeleton Robotics With Cooperative Shape Transformation and Stiffness Adaptation

open access: yesAdvanced Robotics Research, EarlyView.
A bioinspired soft‐skeleton robot that integrates variable‐stiffness chain skeletons into a soft textile skin is developed. The chain skeletons are highly flexible initially but can stiffen upon pneumatic actuation, enabling large deformation and enhanced load‐bearing capacity.

Timing Mechanotransduction: Mechanically Dynamic Biomaterials Reveal the Temporal Hierarchy of YAP/TAZ Control Nodes

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
This work develops dynamically softening polyacrylamide hydrogels for time‐resolved imaging during continuous mechanical transitions. The study revealed that mechanotransduction is biphasic; YAP/TAZ inactivation is driven by early loss of the nucleocytoskeletal continuum connecting subnuclear adhesions, F‐actin, and the nuclear envelope, coupled with ...

Microstructure, Metal-Mold Reaction and Fluidity of Investment Cast-TiAl Alloys

open access: yesMATERIALS TRANSACTIONS, 2004
The objective of this study is to investigate the effects of mold preheating temperature on microstrcutural evolution, metal-mold reaction and fluidity of TiAl alloys. A conventional induction melting furnace was used formelting and casting of TiAl alloys in the present investigation.

Microscale Mapping of Fiber Strain and Damage in Composite Wrinkled Laminates Using Computed Tomography Assisted Wide‐Angle X‐Ray Scattering

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
This study combines full‐field tomography with diffraction mapping to quantify radial (ε002$\varepsilon _{002}$) and axial (ε100$\varepsilon _{100}$) lattice strain in wrinkled carbon‐fiber specimens for the first time. Radial microstrain gradients (−14.5 µεMPa$\varepsilon \mathrm{MPa}$−1) are found to signal damage‐prone zones ahead of failure, which ...

Effect of B on the microstructure and mechanical properties of mechanically milled TiAl alloys [PDF]

open access: yes, 1998
The present study is concerned with gamma-(Ti52Al48)(100-x)B-x (x = 0, 0.5, 2, 5) alloys produced by mechanical milling/vacuum hot pressing (VHPing) using melt-extracted powders.

Electrolyte Covalent Organic Frameworks for Exceptional Potassium Ion Conduction

open access: yesAngewandte Chemie, EarlyView.
One‐pot polymerization of monomers with oligo(ethylene oxide) side chains of different lengths creates electrolyte covalent organic frameworks with well‐defined K+‐electrolyte pathways in 1D pores for K+ conduction. The materials promote K+ conduction exponentially with the side chain length, achieve exceptional conductivity, and enable frictionless ...
