Fracture toughness of TiAl-Cr-Nb-Mo alloys produced via centrifugal casting
Fracture toughness of a TiAl base intermetallic alloy has been investigated at room temperature. The Ti-48Al-2.5Cr-0.5Nb-2Mo (at. %) alloy produced via centrifugal casting exhibits fine nearly lamellar microstructures, consisting mainly of fine lamellar grains, together with a very small quantity of residual β phases along lamellar colony boundaries ...

Modelling and validation: Casting of Al and TiAl alloys in gravity and centrifugal casting processes
Abstract Components which best utilise the properties of high temperature titanium alloys are characterised by thin sections of a few millimetres thickness and hundreds of millimetres length. These alloys however are difficult to work with, being highly reactive in a molten state, necessitating a low superheat during processing.

Progress in research on cold crucible directional solidification of titanium based alloys [PDF]
Cold crucible directional solidification (CCDS) is a newly developed technique, which combines the advantages of the cold crucible and continuous melting. It can be applied to directionally solidify reactive, high purity and refractory materials.

Characterization of TiAl alloys by secondary Ion mass spectrometry [PDF]
Titanium aluminides are arising as a valuable alternative to superalloys in applications where the ratio resistance/density is important. Together with excellent mechanical and corrosion properties at high temperatures, such characteristics are very ...

This review focuses on operando studies of battery materials by X‐ray diffraction (XRD) and total X‐ray scattering (TXS). This work highlights potential pitfalls and identify best‐practices for operando studies and reviews some unusual experiments to illustrate how these methods can be applied beyond the evaluation of the early‐stage cycling mechanisms

Explaining the Origin of Negative Poisson's Ratio in Amorphous Networks With Machine Learning
This review summarizes how machine learning (ML) breaks the “vicious cycle” in designing auxetic amorphous networks. By transitioning from traditional “black‐box” optimization to an interpretable “AI‐Physics” closed‐loop paradigm, ML is shown to not only discover highly optimized structures—such as all‐convex polygon networks—but also unveil hidden ...
