Maltose and maltodextrin utilization by Listeria monocytogenes depend on an inducible ABC transporter which is repressed by glucose. [PDF]

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2010
In the environment as well as in the vertebrate intestine, Listeriae have access to complex carbohydrates like maltodextrins. Bacterial exploitation of such compounds requires specific uptake and utilization systems. We could show that Listeria ...

CcpA mediates the catabolite repression of tst in Staphylococcus aureus [PDF]

open access: yes, 2008
Some clinical isolates of Staphylococcus aureus produce the superantigenic toxic shock syndrome toxin TSST-1, encoded by tst and located on pathogenicity islands.

Proteomic Analysis of Lactococcus lactis FM03 Under Prolonged Alkaline Stress

open access: yesEnvironmental Microbiology, Volume 28, Issue 7, July 2026.
Overview of alkaline resistance mechanisms in Lactococcus lactis FM03. Sustained growth at pH 8 triggers extensive physiological remodelling, including activation of general stress response proteins, suppression of acid resistance, elevated amino acid production, altered cell wall biosynthesis, and doubling of the cell wall thickness.

Characterization of the regulation of a plant polysaccharide utilization operon and its role in biofilm formation in Bacillus subtilis. [PDF]

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2017
The soil bacterium Bacillus subtilis is often found in association with plants in the rhizosphere. Previously, plant polysaccharides have been shown to stimulate formation of root-associated multicellular communities, or biofilms, in this bacterium, yet ...

Impact of Hanks Kinase‐Dependent Phosphorylation of CodY on the Physiology and Virulence in Bacillus cereus

open access: yesMicrobiologyOpen, Volume 14, Issue 6, December 2025.
CodY is a global regulator whose phosphorylation at serine 215 by PrkC/YbdM alters its DNA binding, thereby modulating gene expression and impacting motility, biofilm formation, cytotoxicity, and pathogenicity in Bacillus cereus, suggesting a conserved regulatory mechanism in Firmicutes ABSTRACT CodY acts as a key regulatory protein involved in ...

A combination of independent transcriptional regulators shapes bacterial virulence gene expression during infection.

open access: yesPLoS Pathogens, 2010
Transcriptional regulatory networks are fundamental to how microbes alter gene expression in response to environmental stimuli, thereby playing a critical role in bacterial pathogenesis.

Fermentation of Soy Juice by Lactiplantibacillus plantarum CIRM‐BIA777 Produces Flavor‐Related and Health‐Promoting Metabolites

open access: yesFood Frontiers, Volume 6, Issue 6, Page 3137-3153, November 2025.
Transcriptomics revealed the metabolism of Lactiplantibacillus plantarum during soy milk fermentation. The fermentation of soy milk released aroma compounds and health‐beneficial metabolites. ABSTRACT The fermentation of plant‐based beverages, such as organic and locally produced soy juice (SJ), offers a sustainable way to develop dairy alternatives ...

Characterising the Multiple‐Plastic Degrading Strain of Bacillus subtilis GM_03 From the Galleria mellonella Microbiome

open access: yesEnvironmental Microbiology Reports, Volume 17, Issue 5, October 2025.
A novel strain of Bacillus subtilis has been isolated from plastic‐fed Galleria mellonella larvae, which shows evidence of degradation of both LDPE and PU plastics. Genes potentially associated with plastic degradation have been identified following directed evolution and genome sequencing of the strain.
