Catalytic resonance theory: the catalytic mechanics of programmable ratchets
Catalytic reaction networks of multiple elementary steps operating under dynamic conditions via a programmed input oscillation are difficult to interpret and optimize due to reaction system complexity.

The Catalytic Mechanism of Cdc25A Phosphatase [PDF]
Cdc25 phosphatases are dual specificity phosphatases that dephosphorylate and activate cyclin-dependent kinases (CDKs), thereby effecting the progression from one phase of the cell cycle to the next. Despite its central role in the cell cycle, relatively little is known about the catalytic mechanism of Cdc25.

Structural biology of ferritin nanocages
Ferritin is a conserved iron‐storage protein that sequesters iron as a ferric mineral core within a nanocage, protecting cells from oxidative damage and maintaining iron homeostasis. This review discusses ferritin biology, structure, and function, and highlights recent cryo‐EM studies revealing mechanisms of ferritinophagy, cellular iron uptake, and ...

Experimental Evidence for a Metallohydrolase Mechanism in Which the Nucleophile Is Not Delivered by a Metal Ion: EPR Spectrokinetic and Structural Studies of Aminopeptidase from \u3cem\u3eVibrio proteolyticus\u3c/em\u3e [PDF]
Metallohydrolases catalyse some of the most important reactions in biology and are targets for numerous chemotherapeutic agents designed to combat bacterial infectivity, antibiotic resistance, HIV infectivity, tumour growth, angiogenesis and immune ...

Noise-induced Input Dependence in a Convective Unstable Dynamical System
Unidirectionally coupled dynamical system is studied by focusing on the input (or boundary) dependence. Due to convective instability, noise at an up-flow is spatially amplified to form an oscillation. The response, given by the down-flow dynamics, shows

Catalytic Mechanism of Eukaryotic Neutral Ceramidase [PDF]
Neutral ceramidases are key enzymes of sphingolipid metabolism that hydrolyze the fatty acyl/sphingosine amide linkage of ceramide at neutral pH. In this issue of Structure, Airola et al. (2015) present the first crystal structure of human nCDase and show how complexation with phosphate supports a new catalytic mechanism for Zn-dependent amidases while

This study explores salivary RNA for breast cancer (BC) diagnosis, prognosis, and follow‐up. High‐throughput RNA sequencing identified distinct salivary RNA signatures, including novel transcripts, that differentiate BC from healthy controls, characterize histological and molecular subtypes, and indicate lymph node involvement.

Hanks-Type Serine/Threonine Protein Kinases and Phosphatases in Bacteria: Roles in Signaling and Adaptation to Various Environments [PDF]
Reversible phosphorylation is a key mechanism that regulates many cellular processes in prokaryotes and eukaryotes. In prokaryotes, signal transduction includes two-component signaling systems, which involve a membrane sensor histidine kinase and a ...

Catalytic Mechanism of DNA Topoisomerase IB [PDF]
Type IB topoisomerases and tyrosine recombinases are structurally homologous strand transferases that act through DNA-(3'-phosphotyrosyl)-enzyme intermediates. A constellation of conserved amino acids (Arg-130, Lys-167, Arg-223, and His-265 in vaccinia topoisomerase) catalyzes transesterification of tyrosine to the scissile phosphodiester.
