In Vivo Functions of Catenins

2004
The adhesion of cells to neighbor cells determines cellular and tissue morphogenesis and regulates major cellular processes including motility, growth, survival, and differentiation. Regions of cell-cell adhesion are adherens junctions, desmosomes, and tight junctions.

α-catenin, β-catenin and P-120-catenin immunoexpression in canine mammary tissues and their relationship with E-cadherin

Research in Veterinary Science, 2020
Mammary tumors represent the second most common neoplasia in the canine species, where more than 50% of the cases are classified as malignant. The histological classification is used as a prognostic tool. Cadherins and catenins are responsible for cell adhesion and are intrinsic connected with the process of metastasis.

Switching of α-catenin from αE-catenin in the cortical ventricular zone to αN-catenin II in the intermediate zone

Developmental Brain Research, 2005
Although cadherins and catenins are known to play important roles during neural development, the types of alpha-catenin present in the developing telencephalon are still unknown. Here, we show that the ventricular zones (VZ) of the cortex and the ganglionic eminences express alphaE-catenin and alphaN-catenin, respectively, in a complementary manner. In

α-Catenin

1999
Abstract Originally a-catenin was identified in immunoprecipitation experiments as a 102 kDa protein coprecipitating with antibodies against E-cadherin. Primary structure analysis of α-catenin revealed homology to vinculin, a protein first described as a component of focal adhesions, and suggested the existence of a vinculin-related ...
