Structure–activity analysis of imino‐pyrimidinone‐fused pyrrolidines aids the development of dual plasmepsin V and plasmepsin X inhibitors

open access: yesThe FEBS Journal, EarlyView.
Compounds were identified that inhibit the aspartic protease plasmepsin V from Plasmodium vivax. Further development of these compounds identified compounds, such as S‐WM48, that could inhibit both plasmepsin V and plasmepsin X but plasmepsin IX was not significantly inhibited.

Protein succinylome analysis identifies citrate synthase as a central regulator of osteoclast metabolic activity

open access: yesThe FEBS Journal, EarlyView.
RANKL treatment induces expression of the aconitate decarboxylase (ACOD1) in differentiating osteoclasts, which increases succinate levels. The initially high expression of ACOD1 decreases towards the end of differentiation when the levels of the desuccinylase SIRT5 increase. Succinylation of citrate synthase (CS) was detected exclusively in stimulated

Epidermal proteomics demonstrates Elafin as a psoriasis‐specific biomarker and highlights increased anti‐inflammatory activity around psoriatic plaques

open access: yesJournal of the European Academy of Dermatology and Venereology, EarlyView.
Epidermal sampling of lesional, perilesional and non‐lesional skin from psoriasis and eczema patients as well as healthy skin was used to perform an in depth proteomic analysis. IL‐36γ known to be expressed in lesional psoriasis skin was outperformed by the protease inhibitor Elafin as a disease‐specific epidermal biomarker.

Biomarkers in Peri‐Implant Crevicular Fluid of Healthy Implants and Those With Peri‐Implant Diseases: A Systematic Review and Meta‐Analysis

open access: yesJournal of Oral Pathology &Medicine, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Introduction Several biomarkers in peri‐implant crevicular fluid have been studied to diagnose peri‐implant diseases with inconclusive results. This systematic review and meta‐analysis aimed to comprehensively compare data on the levels of biological components in peri‐implant crevicular fluid collected from healthy and diseased implants to ...

Salivary Proteomics for Detecting Novel Biomarkers of Periodontitis: A Systematic Review

open access: yesJournal of Periodontal Research, EarlyView.
Untargeted salivary proteomics identified promising biological molecules consistently over‐ or under‐expressed in periodontitis patients compared to periodontally healthy subjects, but further targeted approaches are required for their validation. ABSTRACT Aim Salivary content is regarded as a powerful diagnostic window for oral and systemic diseases ...
