Cathepsin K Knockout Mitigates High-Fat Diet–Induced Cardiac Hypertrophy and Contractile Dysfunction [PDF]
The cysteine protease cathepsin K has been implicated in pathogenesis of cardiovascular disease. We hypothesized that ablation of cathepsin K protects against obesity-associated cardiac dysfunction.

Circulating cathepsin K and cystatin C in patients with cancer related bone disease: Clinical and therapeutic implications [PDF]
The clinical significance of serum cathepsin K and cystatin C was assessed in patients with breast cancer (BCa) or prostate cancer (PCa) with confined disease (M0) or bone metastasis (BM).

Autocatalytic Activation of Human Cathepsin K [PDF]
The in vitro activation of the recombinant purified human cathepsin K (EC 3.4.22.38) was examined by mutagenesis. Cathepsin K was expressed as a secreted proenzyme using baculovirus-infected Sf21 insect cells. Spontaneous in vitro activation of procathepsin K occurred at pH 4 and was catalyzed by exogenous mature cathepsin K.

Expression of the elastolytic cathepsins S and K in human atheroma and regulation of their production in smooth muscle cells [PDF]
Formation of the atherosclerotic intima must involve altered metabolism of the elastin-rich arterial extracellular matrix. Proteases potentially involved in these processes remain unclear.

Cathepsin-k expression in pulmonary lymphangioleiomyomatosis [PDF]
Lymphangioleiomyomatosis is a rare and progressive lung cystic disease, caused by the infiltration of lung parenchyma by mesenchymal cells characterized by co-expression of contractile proteins and melanocytic markers. The pathogenesis of lymphangioleiomyomatosis is determined by mutations affecting tuberous sclerosis complex (TSC) genes, with eventual

The effect of cathepsin K deficiency on airway development and TGF-β1 degradation
Background Cathepsin K, a cysteine protease predominantly expressed in osteoclasts, is a major drug target for the treatment of osteoporosis. Recent findings, however, indicate that cathepsin K is also involved in non-skeletal metabolism.

Patterns of gene expression in schistosomes: localization by whole mount in situ hybridization [PDF]
rom the identification of genes to the characterization of their functions and interactions. Developmental biologists have long used whole mount in situ hybridization (WISH) to determine gene expression patterns, as a vital tool for formulating and ...
