Dimethyl fumarate combined with cisplatin at subcytotoxic doses sensitizes cervical cancer toward ferroptosis and apoptosis through GSH restriction and p53 (re)activation

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Dimethyl fumarate (DMF) reduces growth of HPV‐positive cervical cancer spheroids and induces ferroptosis in cervical cancer cells via blocking SLC7A11/Glutathione (GSH) axis. Combination of subcytotoxic doses of DMF and cisplatin (CDDP) further suppresses spheroid growth and drives cell death in 2D culture models.

Utilizing Causal Loop Diagramming to Explore a Research and Evaluation Capacity Building Partnership

open access: yesFrontiers in Public Health, 2022
The capacity to engage in research, evaluation and evidence-informed decision-making supports effective public health policy and practice. Little is known about partnership-based approaches that aim to build capacity across a system or how to evaluate ...

Qualitative Causal Loop Diagram: One Health Model Conceptualizing Brucellosis in Jordan

open access: yesSystems, 2023
Background: Brucellosis is a serious public health problem distributed worldwide. Jordan has one of the highest incidences of brucellosis globally, mostly caused by infection with Brucella melitensis, which is associated with small, ruminant animals such as sheep.

COMP–PMEPA1 axis promotes epithelial‐to‐mesenchymal transition in breast cancer cells

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
This study reveals that cartilage oligomeric matrix protein (COMP) promotes epithelial‐to‐mesenchymal transition (EMT) in breast cancer. We identify PMEPA1 (protein TMEPAI) as a novel COMP‐binding partner that mediates EMT via binding to the TSP domains of COMP, establishing the COMP–PMEPA1 axis as a key EMT driver in breast cancer.

Making Systems Thinking Public: Collaborative Construction, Revision and Use of Computer-based Causal Loop Diagrams

open access: yes, 2022
To solve complex realworld problems in life science, it is important for students to adopt a systems approach. This study examined a 2-week unit that used computer-based causal loop diagramming to foster university students’ systems thinking about ...

Identification of a One Health Intervention for Brucellosis in Jordan Using System Dynamics Modelling

open access: yesSystems, 2023
Brucellosis occurs because of a complex multisector system involving the interplay between animal production and human behavior. A better understanding of transmission dynamics helps pinpoint the most effective interventions to reduce human and animal ...

UNDERSTANDING THE DYNAMIC BEHAVIOUR OF THE AUSTRALIAN RETIREMENT VILLAGE INDUSTRY: A CAUSAL LOOP DIAGRAM

open access: yesInternational Journal of Strategic Property Management, 2021
The retirement village industry in Australia has been accommodating an increasing number of residents in recent decades. However, a thorough understanding of the dynamic behaviour of the industry remains largely unknown, which prevents a better prediction of its future growth.

Interpreting the effects of DNA polymerase variants at the structural level

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Using MAVISp and molecular dynamics simulations, we analyzed over 60 000 missense variants in POLE and POLD1 from ClinVar, COSMIC, cBioPortal, and saturation mutagenesis. Identified mechanistic indicators, including stability, binding, and long‐range, enable structural interpretation, providing ACMG‐like evidence for possible reclassification of VUS ...

Evolving (dis)engagement: analyzing employees' responses to sustainability initiatives through causal loop diagrams

open access: yesFrontiers in Sustainability
IntroductionThis study employed a systems thinking approach to explore the complex and dynamic interactions between sustainability initiatives, and employees' subsequent perceptions, attitudes, and behaviors.
