Inflammatory mediators and dual depression: Potential biomarkers in plasma of primary and substance-induced major depression in cocaine and alcohol use disorders.

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2019
Major depressive disorder (MDD) is the most prevalent comorbid mental disorder among people with substance use disorders. The MDD can be both primary and substance-induced and its accurate diagnosis represents a challenge for clinical practice and ...

Turning Unpredictable Biomolecule Adsorption to Controlled Corona Formation: Focus on Carbon Nanomaterials

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, Volume 38, Issue 46, 18 August 2026.
Controlling the protein corona formation onto carbon nanomaterials (CNMs) enhances their functionalities as platforms for cancer theranostics. Here, we reviewed the effects of the intrinsic and acquired properties of CNMs on protein corona formation, the consequent biological and toxicological outcomes, and the strategies to reshape corona formation ...

Intermittent Hypoxia Exacerbates Lipopolysaccharide‐Induced Neurobehavioral Abnormalities: The Role of Neuroinflammation and Synaptic‐Related Proteins

open access: yesBrain and Behavior, Volume 16, Issue 8, August 2026.
ABSTRACT Background Sepsis is a common systemic inflammatory disease clinically observed in patients with severe trauma or infectious diseases. Lipopolysaccharide (LPS) serves as a classic tool for studying infection‐related neuroinflammation and behavioral changes.

Validity of serum CCL11 (Eotaxin-1) and interleukin-13 as prognostic biomarkers in hepatitis C virus induced liver disease

open access: yesThe Egyptian Journal of Internal Medicine
Background Hepatitis C virus (HCV) is the main cause of chronic liver disease (CLD), which affects more than 50 million people around the world. Persistent immune dysregulation promotes hepatocellular damage, fibrotic remodeling and carcinogenesis ...

Selective Anti‐Inflammatory Actions of Curcumin on Cytokine Pathways in Major Depressive Disorder

open access: yesBrain and Behavior, Volume 16, Issue 8, August 2026.
Curcumin partially attenuates IRS/M1/Th1 immune activation in MDD patients ex vivo, but fails to normalize it. Paradoxically, it upregulates immune profiles in healthy controls. Its immunomodulatory effects are state‐dependent, suggesting cautious use in non‐depressed individuals.

Peripheral chemokine levels in women with recurrent major depression with suicidal ideation Níveis periféricos de quimiocina em mulheres com depressão maior com ideação suicida

open access: yesBrazilian Journal of Psychiatry, 2012
OBJECTIVE: To compare serum levels of MCP-1/CCL2, RANTES/CCL5, and Eotaxin/CCL11 between female patients with recurrent major depressive disorder (MDD) and healthy controls, verifying if there is a difference in the levels of these mediators between ...

Endothelial Atypical Receptors for Chemoattractants in Lung Immune Surveillance

open access: yesEuropean Journal of Immunology, Volume 56, Issue 8, August 2026.
Control of chemokine gradients within tissues is achieved by atypical chemokine receptors (ACKRs). The lungs require tightly regulated leukocyte recruitment for effective host defense while preventing tissue damage. In this context, ACKRs expressed by lung endothelial cells are emerging as critical regulators of leukocyte trafficking and inflammatory ...

Oral Spermidine Supplementation Preserves Submandibular Gland Function After Radiotherapy: Mechanistic Insights and Use in a Phase II Randomized Clinical Trial

open access: yesMedComm, Volume 7, Issue 8, August 2026.
Radiotherapy‐induced xerostomia severely impairs quality of life. Integrated multiomics, organoids, murine models, and a randomized Phase II trial identified spermidine as a key radiation‐responsive metabolite. Oral spermidine preserved salivary gland function, maintained acinar cell integrity through Golgi‐mediated posttranslational modifications ...

Genetic fusion of CCL11 to antigens enhances antigenicity in nucleic acid vaccines and eradicates tumor mass through optimizing T-cell response

open access: yesMolecular Cancer
Nucleic acid vaccines have shown promising potency and efficacy for cancer treatment with robust and specific T-cell responses. Improving the immunogenicity of delivered antigens helps to extend therapeutic efficacy and reduce dose-dependent toxicity ...
