Expression of mutant TIE2 p.L914F during mouse development causes embryonic lethality and defects in vascular remodeling

open access: yesDevelopmental Dynamics, EarlyView.
Abstract Background Sporadic venous malformation (VM) is associated with the hyperactivating p.L914F mutation in TIE2, a receptor tyrosine kinase essential for vascular development. This mutation is not found in hereditary VM, suggesting incompatibility with life when expressed during early vascular development.

Comparative analysis of central corneal thickness in ocular hypertension and healthy individuals

open access: yesPhotodiagnosis and Photodynamic Therapy
Objective: This study aimed to compare the central corneal thickness (CCT) between patients with ocular hypertension (OHT) and healthy individuals, and to investigate the relationship between CCT and intraocular pressure (IOP), diopter, and corneal ...

Post-CCT fellowships

open access: yesThe Bulletin of the Royal College of Surgeons of England, 2008
A proposal to promote excellence in surgical practice has, rather surprisingly, been met with mixed feelings from trainees and trainers alike. Many excellent surgical departments in the UK provide clinical fellowships to support surgeons wishing to enhance their experience in specific subspecialties.

Fhod3 in zebrafish supports myofibril stability during growth of embryonic skeletal muscle

open access: yesDevelopmental Dynamics, EarlyView.
Abstract Background Actin filament organization in cardiomyocytes critically depends on the formin Fhod3, but a role for Fhod3 in skeletal muscle development has not yet been described. Results We demonstrate here that in zebrafish mutated for one of two fhod3 paralog genes, fhod3a, skeletal muscle of the trunk appears normal through 2 days post ...

Flame‐Retardant Bio‐Based Thermo‐Flexible Phase‐Change Composites with Antivibration and Low‐Contact Resistance for Advanced Battery Thermal Management

open access: yesENERGY &ENVIRONMENTAL MATERIALS, EarlyView.
Flame‐retardant bio‐based thermo‐flexible phase‐change composites for advanced battery thermal management. Batteries face critical challenges in thermal management, including overheating risks, poor interfacial contact, and mechanical vibration–induced performance attenuation.

Two Cheers for CCTs

open access: yesIDS Bulletin, 2007
Conditional cash transfers such as PROGRESA/Oportunidades are being widely adopted in developing countries as an effective means of combating poverty and promoting human development. These programmes provide a cash subsidy to the mothers of school-age children conditional on their fulfilling certain requirements. This article argues that in reinforcing
