CD83 and GRASP55 interact in human dendritic cells
Biochemical and Biophysical Research Communications, 2015CD83 is one of the best known surface markers for mature human dendritic cells (DCs). The full-length 45 kDa type-I membrane-bound form (mbCD83) is strongly glycosylated upon DCs maturation. As co-stimulatory properties of CD83 are attributed to mbCD83 surface expression is required for efficient T-cell stimulation by mature DCs.

Expression of CD83 in the murine immune system
Medical Microbiology and Immunology, 2003CD83 is used as a marker for mature dendritic cells (DC) in man. We have developed a new monoclonal antibody (mAb), Michel-17, that specifically recognizes mouse CD83. We show that murine CD83 is expressed mainly on mature DC and on activated T cells. Histological analysis of serial spleen sections revealed a CD83 expression pattern resembling that of ...

Prevention of Chronic Renal Allograft Rejection by Soluble CD83
Transplantation, 2010Recombinant human soluble CD83 had previously exhibited significant immunosuppressive properties that involved interference with dendritic cell maturation in both mouse and humans, inhibition of autoimmunity in mice, and induction of antigen-specific mouse cardiac allograft tolerance when used in combination with other immunosuppressive drugs.

Two Novel Monoclonal Antibodies Produced Against Human CD83 Molecule
Hybridoma, 2011CD83, a maturation marker for human and mouse dendritic cells (DCs), plays a critical role in CD4(+) T cell development as well as peripheral immune regulation. Here, two novel mouse anti-human CD83 monoclonal antibodies (MAbs) were prepared and their immunological characteristics were determined.

Role of CD83 in the Immunomodulation of Dendritic Cells
International Archives of Allergy and Immunology, 2002Glycoprotein CD83 is one of the best-known maturation markers for human dendritic cells (DCs). The fact that CD83 is strongly upregulated together with co-stimulatory molecules such as CD80 and CD86 during DC maturation suggests it plays an important role in the induction of immune responses.

Decreased Small Airway and Alveolar CD83+ Dendritic Cells in COPD
Chest, 2009Dendritic cells (DCs) have been reported to be increased in the small airways of patients with COPD, but the maturity status of these cells is unclear. We have quantified the numbers of cells expressing markers associated with DC maturation.Lung tissue was obtained at resection for lung cancer from 41 patients with COPD (30 current smokers and 11 ex ...

The human dendritic cell marker CD83 maps to chromosome 6p23
Annals of Human Genetics, 1999The chromosomal localization of the human CD83 gene was determined using somatic cell hybrids, a radiation hybrid mapping panel and FISH analysis on human metaphase chromosomes. PCR‐based analysis of a single chromosome hybrid panel identified the presence of the CD83 gene on human chromosome 6 and subsequent analysis of the Genebridge4 radiation panel

The mouse Cd83 gene: structure, domain organization, and chromosome localization
Immunogenetics, 1998Human CD83 (hCD83) is a 45 000 Mr cell-surface protein expressed predominantly by dendritic lineage cells. In this report, the genomic locus encoding mouse CD83 (Cd83) was isolated and the gene structure determined. The Cd83 gene spans approximately 19 kilobases (kb) and is composed of five exons, with two exons encoding a single extracellular ...

Expression of CCR6 and CD83 by cytokine-activated human neutrophils
Blood, 2000Polymorphonuclear leukocytes (PMNLs) are thought to be terminally differentiated, short-lived, and unable to actively synthesize new proteins or to interact with T cells. In the current study, it was found that PMNLs incubated with supernatants of phytohemagglutinin (PHA)-stimulated peripheral blood mononuclear cells (PHA-sup) expressed high levels of ...
