Red Blood Cells Internalize Extracellular DNA via Apoptotic Bodies with Clinical Relevance to Cancer Patients

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Mature red blood cells (RBCs) can capture extracellular DNA, with short fragments homologous to cfDNA. This uptake is mediated by apoptotic bodies, which induce RBC oxidative stress, deformation, and accelerated in vivo clearance. The rbcDNA abundance correlates with tumor burden and therapeutic response, highlighting its potential as a liquid biopsy ...

Invalid Forensic Science Testimony and Wrongful Convictions [PDF]

open access: yes, 2009
This is the first study to explore the forensic science testimony by prosecution experts in the trials of innocent persons, all convicted of serious crimes, who were later exonerated by post-conviction DNA testing.

Aberrant SUMOylation Restricts the Targetable Cancer Immunopeptidome

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Pharmacological SUMOylation inhibition (SUMOi) counteracts tumor immune evasion by unmasking an immunogenic HLA‐I peptide and neoepitope repertoire. By restoring HLA‐I ligand availability through increased antigen processing and presentation, enhanced proteasomal cleavage, and modulated TAP1 peptide affinity, SUMOi boosts tumor immunogenicity ...

Electrochemiluminescence Drives Photodynamic Therapy In Vivo

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Electrochemiluminescence (ECL)‐driven photodynamic therapy (PDT) for in vivo cancer treatment is reported for the first time. The flexible ECL patch exhibits stable and intense luminance under alternating current voltage, enabling efficient photosensitization to generate reactive oxygen species that damage cancer cells, thus leading to significant ...

Small Nucleolar RNA Snord17 Promotes Self‐Renewal of Intestinal Stem Cells through Yy2 mRNA Export and Tead4 Activation

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Snord17, through interaction with Thoc3, promotes nuclear export and translation of Yy2 mRNA in Snord17+/+ ISCs. The Yy2 protein subsequently binds the Tead4 promoter to promote its transcription, activating Hippo signaling, which is essential for ISC maintenance.

Rapid Decentralized Prostate Cancer Risk Stratification by Portable Liquid Biopsy Analysis within a Clinical Biosensor Validation Framework

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
In this work, we showcased two significant scientific advances in (i) developing a portable biosensor technology for rapid decentralized prostate cancer urinary biomarker testing and reporting, with superior performance to current clinical testing practice; and (ii) proposing a clinical validation framework (for our biosensor development) which can be ...

The Mitochondrial Guardian α‐Amyrin Mitigates Alzheimer's Disease Pathology via Modulation of the DLK‐SARM1‐ULK1 Axis

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Dietary habits play a key role in chronic diseases, and higher annual consumption of fruit and vegetable may lower risk of dementia. Artificial intelligence predicts the lipid‐like compound α‐Amyrin (αA) from plants with edible peels as a drug candidate against Alzheimer's disease.

A Microbiota‐ and IL‐15‐Dependent Innate‐Like B Cell Progenitor Expressing E4BP4

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
This work identifies CD3.NKp46.CD19.NK1.1. NK‐B cells enriched in PDK1‐deficient yet present in wild‐type bone marrow. IL‐15 (via CD122) and TLR9‐microbiota signaling maintain their E4BP4 expression. These cells demonstrate innate immunity, preferentially differentiate into B cells, and unveil a novel microbiota‐ and IL‐15‐dependent regulatory pathway ...
