Novel CDC2-related protein kinases produced in murine hematopoietic stem cells
Gene, 1993The polymerase chain reaction with degenerate primers was used for the amplification of cDNA encoding CDC2-related protein kinase (PK) sequences from murine hematopoietic stem cells. In total, nine different PK-encoding sequences were obtained. At least four of them encode previously unknown PKs.

Biochemical Regulation of the CDC2 Protein Kinase
1991cdc21 and its homolog CDC28, are 34 kd protein kinases originally identified in the yeasts S. pombe and S. cerevisiae, respectively (for review see (Cross et al., 1989) (Nurse, 1990). In these organisms, mutations in cdc2/28 arrest cells in either the G1 or the G2 phases of the cell cycle.

Ras target protein canoe is a substrate for Cdc2 and Cdk5 kinases
Archives of Insect Biochemistry and Physiology, 2002AbstractMutations in the canoe locus of Drosophila lead to failure in the dorsal closure of the embryonic epidermis and pattern formation defects in imaginal eyes and wings. In the wing, the canoe mutants develop extra veins when they are heterozygous for shaggy, a mutation in the locus encoding the glycogen synthase kinase 3β (Gsk3β), which has been ...

Do dinoflagellates contain a Cdc2-like protein kinase?
Molecular marine biology and biotechnology, 1996A protein present in extracts of the dinoflagellate Gonyaulax that was capable of binding an antibody directed against the conserved Cdc2 kinase epitope EGVPSTAIREISLLKE was characterized by Western blot analysis and DNA sequencing and shown not to encode a Cdc2 kinase.

Identification of a Novel Drosophila Gene Encoding a Cdc2-Related Protein Kinase
The Journal of Biochemistry, 1994We have identified a novel gene encoding a putative protein kinase from a Drosophila genomic library. The gene, about 2 kbp in length, consists of four exons and codes for a protein of 349 amino acid residues. The deduced sequence shows significant similarity to various kinases, especially to a subgroup of Ser/Thr kinases related to Cdc2 kinase; thus ...

Downregulation of the cdc2/Cyclin B Protein Kinase Activity by Binding of p53 to p34cdc2
Biochemical and Biophysical Research Communications, 2001We previously found that p53 binds to the catalytic subunit of the p34(cdc2)/cyclin B1-kinase. In the present study we analyzed the functional consequences of this interaction. Binding of wild-type p53 to p34(cdc2)/cyclin B1 results in a significant decrease of its histone H1 kinase activity.

The mammalian cdc2 protein kinase: mechanisms of regulation during the cell cycle
Journal of Cell Science, 1989ABSTRACT Recent experimental evidence has demonstrated the central role of the cdc2 protein kinase in the transition from G2 to M phase in eukaryotic cells. We shall review our knowledge of the mechanisms which coordinate activation of the kinase with cell cycle-specific events in mammalian cells.

Pfcrk-1, a developmentally regulated cdc2-related protein kinase of Plasmodium falciparum
Molecular and Biochemical Parasitology, 1995A gene encoding a novel cdc2-related protein kinase has been identified in Plasmodium falciparum, using degenerate oligonucleotides designed to hybridise to regions that are conserved in members of the cdc2 gene family. This gene, called Pfcrk-1, is located on chromosome 4.

Identification of major nucleolar proteins as candidate mitotic substrates of cdc2 kinase
Cell, 1990Following the identification of the cdc2 kinase as a major element controlling entry of cells into mitosis, it is important to define the physiological target range of this enzyme. Here, we demonstrate that two major nucleolar proteins, nucleolin and NO38, are highly phosphorylated during mitosis.

cdc2-like kinase is associated with the retinoblastoma protein.
Oncogene, 1992The growth-suppressive activity of the retinoblastoma (RB) protein is suggested to be regulated by phosphorylation. In studies on the kinase that phosphorylates the RB proteins, we have previously found that RB proteins can be phosphorylated by purified cdc2 kinase. In this study, we noted that RB proteins immunoprecipitated from human cell lysates are
