Phenotypic, Targeted Genotypic, and Antimicrobial Susceptibility Profiling of Extended‐Spectrum β‐Lactamase Production and Exclusive blaOXA−48 Gene Detection in Escherichia coli and Klebsiella pneumoniae Isolates From a South Lebanese Hospital

open access: yesJournal of Clinical Laboratory Analysis, Volume 39, Issue 20, October 2025.
This study investigates the prevalence of multidrug‐resistant Escherichia coli and Klebsiella pneumoniae in South Lebanon's Saida region, focusing on ESBL and carbapenemase production. Results showed a high prevalence of ESBL producers (89.5%) and a lower rate of carbapenemase producers (10.5%), with blaCTX‐M being the most common ESBL gene.
