Use of Cocoa Ethanolic Extract for Treatment of Staphylococcal Infection in Rabbit-skin Model [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
In septic condition, the skin normal flora Staphylococcal spp. may trigger local and sistemic skin infection. In this study antibacterial activity of cocoa ethanolic extract (CEE) against Staphylococcus aureus and ...

Use of whole genome sequencing of commensal Escherichia coli in pigs for antimicrobial resistance surveillance, United Kingdom, 2018 [PDF]

open access: yes, 2019
BackgroundSurveillance of commensal Escherichia coli, a possible reservoir of antimicrobial resistance (AMR) genes, is important as they pose a risk to human and animal health.

Extended-spectrum β-lactamases, transferable quinolone resistance, and virulotyping in extra-intestinal E. coli in Uruguay [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
Introduction: To characterize extended-spectrum β-lactamases (ESBLs) and plasmid-mediated quinolone resistance (PMQR) genes in Escherichia coli isolates obtained from extra-intestinal samples in three Uruguayan hospitals.

Diversity and Plant Growth‐Promoting Potential of Duckweed‐Associated Bacteria on Wolffia globosa Biomass Production and Nutritional Quality

open access: yesEnvironmental Microbiology Reports, Volume 18, Issue 2, April 2026.
Co‐cultivation screening of 116 duckweed‐associated bacteria revealed isolates that enhanced Wolffia globosa biomass up to 77.75%, with Pseudomonas toyotomiensis W5–11 increasing dry weight 3.18‐fold and chlorophyll content 2.75‐fold, demonstrating their potential as biofertilisers for sustainable duckweed production.

Asp-120 Locates Zn2 for Optimal Metallo-β-lactamase Activity [PDF]

open access: yes, 2007
Metallo-β-lactamases are zinc-dependent hydrolases that inactivate β-lactam antibiotics, rendering bacteria resistant to them. Asp-120 is fully conserved in all metallo-β-lactamases and is central to catalysis.

Transferring an optimized TAP-toolbox for the isolation of protein complexes to a portfolio of rice tissues [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
Proteins are the cell's functional entities. Rather than operating independently, they interact with other proteins. Capturing in vivo protein complexes is therefore crucial to gain understanding of the function of a protein in a cellular context ...

Low Risk for Urinary Tract Infection After Voiding Cystography in Children Without Dilated Vesikoureteral Reflux

open access: yesActa Paediatrica, Volume 115, Issue 4, Page 972-977, April 2026.
ABSTRACT Aim Urinary tract infection (UTI) is the most common and significant complication after voiding cystourethrography (VCUG) but the reported incidence in children varies highly. Therefore, the aim of this study was to evaluate the rate and possible risk factors for UTIs after VCUG. Method A multicentre retrospective cohort study of children < 15

Rifaximin plus cefotaxime versus cefotaxime alone in treatment of spontaneous bacterial peritonitis in patients with cirrhosis

open access: yesThe Egyptian Journal of Internal Medicine, 2018
Background/purpose of the study Spontaneous bacterial peritonitis (SBP) is a cause of significantly higher morbidity and mortality in patients with cirrhosis. This study was conducted to assess the effect of adding rifaximin to cefotaxime in treatment of

The reaction mechanism of metallo-beta-lactamases is tuned by the conformation of an active site mobile loop [PDF]

open access: yes, 2018
Carbapenems are "last resort" β-lactam antibiotics used to treat serious and life-threatening health care-associated infections caused by multidrug-resistant Gram-negative bacteria.
