PARP inhibitors induce a senescence phenotype in non‐small cell lung carcinoma cell lines

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Talazoparib is the most potent inducer of senescence among different PARP1 inhibitors in human NSCLC cells. In the absence of PARP, no senescence phenotype was observed, demonstrating that PARP1 is necessary for the induction of senescence by this inhibitor.

Promiscuous stimulation of HSP70 ATPase activity by parasite‐derived J‐domains

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
The malaria parasite Plasmodium falciparum exports three highly homologous yet functionally divergent J‐domain proteins into human erythrocytes. Here, we show that J‐domains isolated from all three proteins effectively stimulate the ATPase activity of both endogenous host and exported parasite HSP70 chaperones.

Erythropoietin modulates hepatic inflammation, glucose homeostasis, and soluble epoxide hydrolase and epoxides in high‐fat diet‐induced obese mice

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Erythropoietin administration suppresses hepatic soluble epoxide hydrolase (sEH) expression, leading to increased CYP‐derived epoxides. This is associated with a shift in hepatic macrophage polarization characterized by reduced M1 markers and increased M2 markers, along with reduced hepatic inflammation, suppressed hepatic lipogenesis, and attenuated ...

Identification of functional murine mitochondrial formyl peptides and their effects on myeloid‐derived suppressor cell generation

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
We first identified functional murine mitochondrial N‐formyl peptides (MT‐FPs) and investigated their effects on the in vitro myeloid‐derived suppressor cell (MDSC) generation from bone marrow cells. We demonstrated that MT‐FPs acted directly on bone marrow cells to promote MDSC generation and modulated the polymorphonuclear (PMN)‐MDSC/monocyte (M ...

Cell blocks in cytopathology: An update

Cytopathology, 2018
The cell block (CB) offers many advantages over other cytological preparations, particularly for immunocytochemical and molecular testing. However, inconsistent cellularity remains the most common reason for dissatisfaction among cytopathologists.

Selectins block T cells in SLE

Nature Reviews Rheumatology, 2021
New research shows that platelets inhibit regulatory T cell immunosuppressive activity in systemic lupus erythematosus via P-selectin–PSGL1 interaction.

Cell Block Optimization: A Comparative Study of Quality Variables in 4 Different Cell Block Methods

Acta Cytologica, 2021
Objective: The cell block (CB) is an important adjunct to cytological preparations in diagnostic cytopathology. Optimizing cellular material in the CB is essential to the success of ancillary studies such as immunohistochemistry (IHC) and molecular studies (MS).

The Houdini of Cell Block A

2021
The chapter delves into Wood’s relationship with the press and his rise as a criminal celebrity in the mid-1920s. Wood’s jailbreaks from the North Carolina State Prison are detailed as well as his wounding in an attempted robbery while on the run in Indiana.

Treating Cancer by Blocking Cell Signals

Journal of Clinical Oncology, 2005
Cancer development and propagation occur through defects inside and outside the cancer cell. Extracellular events occur in the stroma and vasculature. A central role in dysregulated cell function is attributed to signaling systems. In multicellular organisms, a diverse array of growth factors, cytokines, and proto-oncogenes transduce their growth ...

Application of the Microarray Technique to Cell Blocks

Acta Cytologica, 2007
To evaluate whether the technique ofmicroarray construction can be applied to paraffin-embedded cell block specinmens. We used a manual microarray method for construction of a well-aligned cell microarray. First we evaluated the cellularity of the cell block and assigned the cases to the null, low, moderate or high cellularity category. Second, based on
