Rapid Isolation and Concentration of Pathogenic Fungi Using Inertial Focusing on a Chip-Based Platform

open access: yesFrontiers in Cellular and Infection Microbiology, 2019
Systemic Candida infections remain a leading cause of nosocomial infections in the United States and worldwide. Many challenges remain in achieving rapid, direct diagnosis of fungal bloodstream infections due to limitations of conventional diagnostic ...

Separation of accelerated electrons and positrons in the relativistic reconnection

open access: yes, 2007
We study an acceleration of electrons and positrons in the relativistic magnetic field reconnection using a 2.5-D particle-in-cell electromagnetic relativistic code. We consider the model with two current sheets and periodic boundary conditions.

Optimizing an array of antennas for cellular coverage from a high altitude platform [PDF]

open access: yes, 2003
In a wireless communications network served by a high altitude platform (HAP) the cochannel interference is a function of the antenna beamwidth, angular separation and. sidelobe level.

Label-free single-cell separation and imaging of cancer cells using an integrated microfluidic system

open access: yesScientific Reports, 2017
The incidence of cancer is increasing worldwide and metastatic disease, through the spread of circulating tumor cells (CTCs), is responsible for the majority of the cancer deaths.

ERBIN limits epithelial cell plasticity via suppression of TGF‐β signaling

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
In breast and lung cancer patients, low ERBIN expression correlates with poor clinical outcomes. Here, we show that ERBIN inhibits TGF‐β‐induced epithelial‐to‐mesenchymal transition in NMuMG breast and A549 lung adenocarcinoma cell lines. ERBIN suppresses TGF‐β/SMAD signaling and reduces TGF‐β‐induced ERK phosphorylation.

Analysis of Temperature Field in the Dielectrophoresis-Based Microfluidic Cell Separation Device

open access: yesFluids, 2022
Cell separation techniques based on dielectrophoresis are of high interest as an effective method of performing cell separation non-invasively on cells.

Particle and Cell Separation

open access: yes, 2021
Many processors are available for separating particles and/or cells, but few can match the capacity of flow cytometry – in particular the sorting component. Several aspects unique to cell sorting give it such power. First, particles can be separated based on size, complexity, fluorescence, or any combination of these parameters.

Continuous On-Chip Cell Separation Based on Conductivity-Induced Dielectrophoresis with 3D Self-Assembled Ionic Liquid Electrodes.

open access: yesAnalytical Chemistry, 2016
Dielectrophoresis (DEP) has been widely explored to separate cells for various applications. However, existing DEP devices are limited by the high cost associated with the use of noble metal electrodes, the need of high-voltage electric field, and/or ...

Thermostable neutral metalloprotease from Geobacillus sp. EA1 does not share thermolysin's preference for substrates with leucine at the P1′ position

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Knowing how proteases recognise preferred substrates facilitates matching proteases to applications. The S1′ pocket of protease EA1 directs cleavage to the N‐terminal side of hydrophobic residues, particularly leucine. The S1′ pocket of thermolysin differs from EA's at only one position (leucine in place of phenylalanine), which decreases cleavage ...
