Cell sheet technology and cell patterning for biofabrication
Biofabrication, 2009We have developed cell sheet technology as a modern method for the fabrication of functional tissue-like and organ-like structures. This technology allows for a sheet of interconnected cells and cells in full contact with their natural extracellular environment to be obtained.

Cell Culture on Nanopillar Sheet: Study of HeLa Cells on Nanopillar Sheet
Japanese Journal of Applied Physics, 2005This is the first report of the successful culturing of HeLa cells on nanopillar sheets–a new type of cell culture dish–in a different way from that on flat petri dishes. Nanopillar sheets were fabricated with a high-aspect ratio structure with a diameter of 80–1000 nm and a height of 1–3 µm using nanoprint technology. Nanopillar structure with 500

Thermoresponsive Microgel Films for Harvesting Cells and Cell Sheets
Biomacromolecules, 2013This work reports the formation of thermoresponsive poly(N-isopropylacrylamide-co-styrene) (PNIPAAmSt) microgel films and their use for cell growth and detachment via temperature stimuli. Thermoresponsive surface films can be conveniently produced by spin-coating or drop-coating of PNIPAAmSt microgel dispersions onto substrates such as glass coverslips,

2014 International Symposium on Micro-NanoMechatronics and Human Science (MHS), 2014
In this study, the cell sheet-based technology was able to control cell orientation in 3D engineered tissue construct. Using a micropatterned thermoresponsive surface, human cells such as fibroblasts and myoblasts were aligned on the surface, and manipulated as a single cell sheet by reducing the culture temperature to 20°C.

Control of cell orientation in mesenchymal cell sheets fabricated using microstructured mesh sheet
2014 International Symposium on Micro-NanoMechatronics and Human Science (MHS), 2014We have developed a novel method for fabricating monolayer cell sheets by culturing cells on microstructured mesh sheets suspended in a culture medium as substrates for cell attachment and growth. In this study, we evaluated the relationship between cell orientation and mesh shape with the aim of generating cell sheets with defined cell orientation ...

Cultivation of periodontal tissue cell sheet by a new way for cell sheet engineering
2016 Sixth International Conference on Information Science and Technology (ICIST), 2016We incorporate the idea by Akashi et al. which utilize disulfide bonds in forming the porous hydrogel. We further develop a system using γ-PGA as scaffold and disulfide bonds cleavage as the critical point of cell sheet detach system. Cytotoxicity tests showed good biocompatibility of the matrix PVDF membranes.

Development of cell-sheet handling tool for measurement of cell sheet adhesion force
2009 International Symposium on Micro-NanoMechatronics and Human Science, 2009We have demonstrated hybrid micro mechanical systems (HMMS) using muscle cells. When constructing cells to HMMS, there are some forces between adhesive interface and cells, dur to contraction of muscle cells must be considered to design. When these forces are larger than adhesion force of cells, cells detach from substrates and system is not functional.

Cell sheet engineering for the injured heart
Medical Hypotheses, 2008Myocardial infarction and subsequent heart failure are a leading cause of morbidity and mortality. Tissue engineering is emerging as promising alternative approach to treat these kinds of diseases. However, conventional applications using biodegradable scaffolds have disadvantages, such as biocompatibility, biodegradability, and cytotoxicity, and this ...
