SARS-CoV-2: preliminary study of infected human nasopharyngeal tissue by high resolution microscopy

open access: yesVirology Journal, 2021
Background The novel coronavirus SARS-CoV-2 is the etiological agent of COVID-19. This virus has become one of the most dangerous in recent times with a very high rate of transmission.

A Beautiful Bind: Phage Display and the Search for Cell-Selective Peptides

open access: yesViruses
Phage display has advanced the discovery of peptides that selectively bind to a wide variety of cell surface molecules, offering new modalities to modulate disease-related protein–protein interactions (PPIs).

A Comparative In Vitro and In Vivo Study of Osteogenicity by Using Two Biomaterials and Two Human Mesenchymal Stem Cell Subtypes

open access: yesFrontiers in Cell and Developmental Biology, 2022
Background: Bone repair induced by stem cells and biomaterials may represent an alternative to autologous bone grafting. Mesenchymal stromal/stem cells (MSCs), easily accessible in every human, are prototypical cells that can be tested, alone or with a ...

Influence of Substrates on the Surface Characteristics and Membrane Proteome of Fibrobacter succinogenes S85.

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2015
Although Fibrobacter succinogenes S85 is one of the most proficient cellulose degrading bacteria among all mesophilic organisms in the rumen of herbivores, the molecular mechanism behind cellulose degradation by this bacterium is not fully elucidated ...

Enteropathogenic E. coli shows delayed attachment and host response in human jejunum organoid‐derived monolayers compared to HeLa cells

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Enteropathogenic E. coli (EPEC) infects the human intestinal epithelium, resulting in severe illness and diarrhoea. In this study, we compared the infection of cancer‐derived cell lines with human organoid‐derived models of the small intestine. We observed a delayed in attachment, inflammation and cell death on primary cells, indicating that host ...

PRE-CLINICAL DEVELOPMENT OF HUMAN MONOCLONAL ANTIBODIES TARGETING NOVEL, CELL WALL PROTEINS IN DRUG RESISTANT FUNGAL PATHOGENS

open access: yesInternational Journal of Infectious Diseases, 2023
Intro: As the world begins to “run out” of anti-fungal drug options, the development of next generation alternatives remains dogged by the need to kill a eukaryotic pathogen within a eukaryotic host.

Organoids in pediatric cancer research

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Organoid technology has revolutionized cancer research, yet its application in pediatric oncology remains limited. Recent advances have enabled the development of pediatric tumor organoids, offering new insights into disease biology, treatment response, and interactions with the tumor microenvironment.

A Novel Trypanosoma cruzi Protein Associated to the Flagellar Pocket of Replicative Stages and Involved in Parasite Growth. [PDF]

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2015
The flagellar pocket constitutes an active and strategic site in the body of trypanosomatids (i.e. parasitic protozoa that cause important human and/or livestock diseases), which participates in several important processes such as cell polarity ...

Transferrin receptor 1‐mediated iron uptake supports thermogenic activation in human cervical‐derived adipocytes

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
In this study, we found that human cervical‐derived adipocytes maintain intracellular iron level by regulating the expression of iron transport‐related proteins during adrenergic stimulation. Melanotransferrin is predicted to interact with transferrin receptor 1 based on in silico analysis.
