Glycosylated RNAs: discovery and implications in cancer biology

open access: yesFrontiers in Oncology
Glycosylated RNAs (glycoRNAs) are a newly discovered class of biomolecules that challenge the long-standing paradigm that glycosylation occurs exclusively on proteins and lipids.

Isolation and Characterization of Multipotent CD24+ Cells From the Renal Papilla of Swine

open access: yesFrontiers in Medicine, 2018
Over 100,000 patients in the United States are currently waiting for a kidney transplant. With just over 10,000 cadaveric kidneys transplanted annually, it is of the utmost importance to optimize kidney viability upon transplantation. One exciting avenue

The planar cell polarity protein Vangl2 interacts with the PDZ‐domains of Scribble but not with a unique PDZ‐like domain in Inturned

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Structural and biochemical characterisations show that the planar cell polarity (PCP) protein Inturned harbours a unique PDZ‐like domain that does not bind canonical PDZ‐binding motifs (PBMs) like that of another PCP protein Vangl2. In contrast, the apical‐basal polarity protein Scribble contains four PDZ domains that bind Vangl2, but one PDZ domain ...

The Opportunities and Challenges of Mesenchymal Stem Cells-Derived Exosomes in Theranostics and Regenerative Medicine

open access: yesCells
Cell-secreted nanovesicles of endosomal origin, called exosomes, are vital for mediating intracellular communication. As local or distal transporters of intracellular cargo, they reflect the unique characteristics of secretory cells and establish cell ...

Tau acetylation at K331 has limited impact on tau pathology in vivo

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We mapped tau post‐translational modifications in humanized MAPT knock‐in mice and in amyloid‐bearing double knock‐in mice. Acetylation within the repeat domain, particularly around K331, showed modest increases under amyloid pathology. To test functional relevance, we generated MAPTK331Q knock‐in mice.

Hyaluronic Acid- Paclitaxel: Antitumor Efficacy against CD44(+) Human Ovarian Carcinoma Xenografts

open access: yesNeoplasia: An International Journal for Oncology Research, 2007
Numerous human tumor types, including ovarian cancer, display a significant expression of the CD44 family of cell surface proteoglycans. To develop tumortargeted drugs, we have initially evaluated whether the CD44 ligand hyaluronic acid (HA) could serve ...

Comprehensive In Vitro Toxicity Testing of a Panel of Representative Oxide Nanomaterials: First Steps towards an Intelligent Testing Strategy. [PDF]

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2015
Nanomaterials (NMs) display many unique and useful physico-chemical properties. However, reliable approaches are needed for risk assessment of NMs. The present study was performed in the FP7-MARINA project, with the objective to identify and evaluate in ...
