Survival in Granular Cell Astrocytomas

Journal of Neurological Surgery Part A: Central European Neurosurgery, 2014
Granular cell astrocytomas (GCAs) are rarely encountered aggressive glial neoplasms. Treatment options comprise surgery, radiotherapy, and chemotherapy. Due to the small number of cases, a standard therapeutic regimen for GCA does not exist. We report on the case of a 64-year-old woman with GCA subjected to tumor biopsy followed by radiochemotherapy ...

Red cell survival in the puerperium

American Journal of Obstetrics and Gynecology, 1968
Abstract Red cell survival was measured in 10 normal puerperal women using radioactive chromium tagging of red cells. The T 1/2 varied between 21 and 33 days as compared with 22 to 37 days in 12 normal nonpregnant subjects. The data indicate that red cell survival in the puerperium is normal.

Cell Death and Survival Assays

2017
Heat shock proteins are well-known protectors from cell death. Cell death (in particular, apoptosis and necrosis) is accompanied by certain hallmarks manifested as specific alterations in cellular membranes, cytoplasm, nucleus, and mitochondria. Some of those hallmarks are easily detectable in situ and, therefore, they can be applied for the assessment

Repair processes and cell survival

The British Journal of Radiology, 1972
Abstract A model of cell survival after irradiation is presented which explicitly incorporates a repair process. The model is based on Powers' suggestion of a “pool”, and is developed along the lines initiated by Lajtha and Oliver (1961). The repair process corresponding to the shoulder on the survival curve is distinguished from the process ...

Neuronal Cell Survival

Annals of the New York Academy of Sciences, 2009
One of the central issues in neuroscience today is the study of the mechanisms of neuronal survival. Since the discovery of nerve growth factor (almost 60 years ago), many groups have clearly demonstrated the central role of neurotrophins on the regulation of neuronal cell survival during developmental stages as well as during adult life.

Mast Cell Apoptosis and Survival

2011
Mast cells are enigmatic cells that are recognized as critical components of our immune system. They are strategically localized at the host/environment interface, display a long lifespan once situated in tissues and have the ability to produce, store and upon activation, release immuno-regulatory molecules.

Neuroglobin and neuronal cell survival

Biochimica et Biophysica Acta (BBA) - Proteins and Proteomics, 2013
The balance between neuronal apoptosis and survival sculpts the developing brain and has an important role in neurodegenerative diseases. Thus, the individuation of signals that could modulate the cell death machinery as well as enhance survival in neurons promises to provide multiple points of therapeutic intervention in neurodegenerative diseases ...

Cytokine-Mediated Cell Survival

International Journal of Hematology, 2004
Pathways through which signals emanating from cytokine receptors support cell survival have long been a focus of intensive research. For Baf-3, a murine interleukin 3-dependent cell line, the 2 distinct pathways involved are JAK/STATs/Bcl-xL and Ras/PI3-K.
