Cell-Mediated Autophagy Promotes Cancer Cell Survival [PDF]
Abstract Immune effector cells integrate signals that define the nature and magnitude of the subsequent response. Experimental measures for immune cell–mediated lysis of tumors or virally infected targets rely on average responses of permeability or apoptotic changes within a population of targets.

ABSTRACT Background Kaposiform lymphangiomatosis (KLA) is an aggressive complex lymphatic anomaly. Patients exhibit malformed lymphatic vessels and often develop hemorrhagic effusions and elevated angiopoietin‐2 (Ang‐2) levels. A somatic NRAS p.Q61R (NRASQ61R) mutation has been associated with KLA.

SNP Analysis of the SOD1 gene involved in Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS)
ALS is a rare neurodegenerative disease causing the loss of motor neurons in the brain and spinal cord. Mutations in over forty genes, particularly the Superoxide Dismutase 1 (SOD1) gene, are linked to ALS.

Rethink of EGFR in Cancer With Its Kinase Independent Function on Board
The epidermal growth factor receptor (EGFR) is one of most potent oncogenes that are commonly altered in cancers. As a receptor tyrosine kinase, EGFR's kinase activity has been serving as the primary target for developing cancer therapeutics, namely the ...

Low Concentrations of Oxidized Phospholipids Increase Stress Tolerance of Endothelial Cells
Oxidized phospholipids (OxPLs) are generated by enzymatic or autooxidation of esterified polyunsaturated fatty acids (PUFAs) residues. OxPLs are present in circulation and atherosclerotic plaques where they are thought to induce predominantly ...

A Nonparametric Method for the Derivation of α/β Ratios from the Effect of Fractionated Irradiations [PDF]
Multifractionation isoeffect data are commonly analysed under the assumption that cell survival determines the observed tissue or tumour response, and that it follows a linear-quadratic dose dependence.

ABSTRACT Background The management of clinically apparent single lesions or oligofocal nephroblastomatosis, a facultative precursor of nephroblastoma, remains debated. Methods We retrospectively analyzed 37 patients with clinically apparent single or oligofocal nephroblastomatosis (two to three lesions per kidney) among 2347 patients registered between

Starve Cancer Cells of Glutamine: Break the Spell or Make a Hungry Monster? [PDF]
Distinct from normal differentiated tissues, cancer cells reprogram nutrient uptake and utilization to accommodate their elevated demands for biosynthesis and energy production.

ABSTRACT Purpose Pediatric central nervous system (CNS) tumors often recur despite multimodality therapy. Although re‐irradiation (re‐RT) has historically been limited by concerns for severe late toxicities, modern techniques have renewed interest in this approach. Proton therapy provides dosimetric advantages that may enable curative re‐treatment with

MAM kinases: physiological roles, related diseases, and therapeutic perspectives—a systematic review
Mitochondria-associated membranes (MAMs) are tethering regions amid the membranes of the endoplasmic reticulum (ER) and mitochondria. They are a lipid raft-like structure occupied by various proteins that facilitates signal transduction between the two ...
