Pressure-induced alpha-to-omega transition in titanium metal: A systematic study of the effects of uniaxial stress

open access: yes, 2004
We investigated the effects of uniaxial stress on the pressure-induced alpha-to-omega transition in pure titanium (Ti) by means of angle dispersive x-ray diffraction in a diamond-anvil cell.

Hysteresis and competition between disorder and crystallization in sheared and vibrated granular flow

open access: yes, 2004
Experiments on spherical particles in a 3D Couette cell vibrated from below and sheared from above show a hysteretic freezing/melting transition. Under sufficient vibration a crystallized state is observed, which can be melted by sufficient shear.

Cell approach to glass transition

open access: yesJournal of Physics: Condensed Matter, 2003
We present a novel theoretical approach to understanding the complex dynamics of glass-forming liquids, granular packings and amorphous solids. This theory, which is an elaboration of the free volume and inherent structure approaches, allows one to retrieve the thermodynamical properties of these systems from studies of geometrical and topological ...

Absolute frequency measurements for hyperfine structure determination of the R(26) 62-0 transition at 501.7 nm in molecular iodine

open access: yes, 2007
The absolute frequencies of the hyperfine components of the R(26) 62-0 transition in molecular iodine at 501.7 nm are measured for the first time with an optical clockwork based on a femtosecond laser frequency comb generator.

Form follows function: Morphological and immunohistological insights into epithelial–mesenchymal transition characteristics of tumor buds

open access: yesTumor Biology, 2017
In cancer biology, the architectural concept “form follows function” is reflected by cell morphology, migration, and epithelial–mesenchymal transition protein pattern. In vivo, features of epithelial–mesenchymal transition have been associated with tumor

Phase Transition in a Cell

open access: yesScience, 2009
The polarized distribution of P granules in a worm embryo is achieved, not by movement of the granules, but by a condensation process.

Attractor Landscape Analysis Reveals a Reversion Switch in the Transition of Colorectal Tumorigenesis

open access: yesAdvanced Science
A cell fate change such as tumorigenesis incurs critical transition. It remains a longstanding challenge whether the underlying mechanism can be unraveled and a molecular switch that can reverse such transition is found. Here a systems framework, REVERT,

Motility-driven glass and jamming transitions in biological tissues

open access: yes, 2016
Cell motion inside dense tissues governs many biological processes, including embryonic development and cancer metastasis, and recent experiments suggest that these tissues exhibit collective glassy behavior.
