Histopathological Evidence of Neurodegenerative Pathology in Epilepsy: A Systematic Review

open access: yesAnnals of Clinical and Translational Neurology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Epilepsy affects > 50 million people worldwide and is associated with a disproportionate burden of cognitive impairment. Emerging evidence suggests that neurodegenerative proteinopathies, particularly hyperphosphorylated tau (p‐tau) and amyloid‐β (Aβ), may contribute to cognitive dysfunction in people with epilepsy (PWE), even in the absence ...

β‐Catenin/c‐Myc Axis Modulates Autophagy Response to Different Ammonia Concentrations

open access: yesAdvanced Biology, Volume 9, Issue 3, March 2025.
Ammonia, detoxified by the liver into urea and glutamine, impacts autophagy differently at varying levels. Low ammonia activates autophagy via c‐Myc and β‐catenin, while high levels suppress it. Using Huh7 cells and Spf‐ash mice, c‐Myc's role in cytoprotective autophagy is revealed, offering insights into hyperammonemia and potential therapeutic ...

Crosstalking with dendritic cells: a path to engineer advanced T Cell immunotherapy

open access: yesFrontiers in Systems Biology
Crosstalk between dendritic cells and T cells plays a crucial role in modulating immune responses in natural and pathological conditions. DC-T cell crosstalk is achieved through contact-dependent (i.e., immunological synapse) and contact-independent ...

A Modular Liver–Microbial Microfluidic Platform to Evaluate Therapeutic and Adverse Effects of Microbial Metabolites

open access: yesAdvanced Healthcare Materials, EarlyView.
This study introduces a modular microfluidic platform that connects liver cells with live microbes to mimic key aspects of the gut–liver interaction in steatosis. Using this system, both microbial metabolites and live bacteria significantly reduced fat accumulation in liver cells, but live microbes triggered inflammation and broader metabolic changes ...

Evaluation of tissue-engineered blood vessels as three-dimensional in vitro testing system in cardiovascular research

open access: yesFrontiers in Bioengineering and Biotechnology
BackgroundDisturbed crosstalk between endothelial cells (ECs) and vascular smooth muscle cells (SMCs) has an important role in intimal hyperplasia and restenosis after vascular interventions, however, the exact pathomechanisms are incompletely understood.
