Production of cellulases and hemicellulases by the straw mushroom, Volvariella volvacea
Mycological Research, 1994Carboxymethylcellulase (CMCase), Avicelase and β-glucosidase production was monitored in submerged cultures of two strains (V 14 and V 34) of Volvariella volvacea grown on Avicel. All three cellulolytic enzymes were detectable in culture supernatants, although levels of CMCase and Avicelase were considerably higher in cultures of V.

Cellulase and hemicellulase production by Cellulomonas flavigena NIAB 441
Biotechnology Letters, 1984Cellulomonas flavigena (strain NIAB 441) produced cellulase and hemicellulase activities when grown on Leptochloa fusca L. Kunth (Kallar grass), found to be the best inducer for enzyme production. The enzyme possessed the potential to saccharify bagasse, Kallar grass straw, wheat straw, carboxymethyl cellulose (CMC) and xylan to reducing sugars.

To establish the xylanase inducers of T. aurantiacus, the mycelia were first grown on glucose up until the end of the exponential growth phase, followed by washing and re-suspension in a basal medium without a carbon source.

Okara (soybean residue) is a highly perishable food processing by-product from soymilk and tofu manufacture. It contains a large proportion of insoluble dietary fibre (40-60% on a dry basis), as well as digestion-resistant proteins, trypsin inhibitors and phytic acid. These factors contribute lead to the under-utilisation of okara.
