4R-cembranoid confers neuroprotection against LPS-induced hippocampal inflammation in mice
Background Chronic brain inflammation has been implicated in the pathogenesis of various neurodegenerative diseases and disorders. For example, overexpression of pro-inflammatory cytokines has been associated with impairments in hippocampal-dependent ...

Cembranoids from the Vietnamese soft coral Sarcophyton ehrenbergi
Using various chromatographic separations, two new cembranoids, ehrenbergols F and G (1 and 2), along with three known analogs ehrenbergol D (3), (+)-isosarcophine (4) and sinulariol Z2 (5) were isolated from the soft coral Sarcophyton ehrenbergi. The structural elucidation was done by extensive analysis of the 1 D and 2 D NMR, HR-ESI-QTOF-MS as well ...

The primary reason for cancer‐related fatalities is metastasis. The compound 4‐carbomethoxyl‐10‐epigyrosanoldie E, derived from the Sinularia sandensis soft coral species grown in cultures, exhibits properties that counteract inflammation. Moreover, it has been observed to trigger both apoptosis and autophagy within cancerous cells.

Actions of octocoral and tobacco cembranoids on nicotinic receptors [PDF]
Nicotinic acetylcholine receptors (AChRs) are pentameric proteins that form agonist-gated cation channels through the plasma membrane. AChR agonists and antagonists are potential candidates for the treatment of neurodegenerative diseases. Cembranoids are naturally occurring diterpenoids that contain a 14-carbon ring.
